Yes
They love to eat cornmeal and they drink water from a soaked cotton ball. I leave the cornmeal in a small cap so that the container bottom stays cleaner. A demonstration can be shown by not allowing the crickets water for 18 hours and then dropping the soaked cotton balls into their container. Within a few moments all of the thirsty crickets will visit the cotton for a drink.

Cotton balls work, but they get dirty fast from the crickets' droppings. We switched to water gel years ago and won't go back to using anything else.
You can buy the gel in jars - but it is very expensive that way ($4-5 per pint).
We sell the dry crystals on Kingsnake. You just add water and let it sit for a few hours - then you have gel. The gel is far superior and if you plan to water crickets on a regular basis in the future - it is well worth getting a pkg of crystals to make your own.
If you only need a temporary fix - then go with the cotton balls.
Good luck!

the stupid gel stuff they sell for a fortune, specifically meant for crickets is just gelatin and water. litterall. some brands MIGHT have calcium in it, but as long as you're dusting your crickets that don't matter diddly squat. jut get some gelatin powder from anywhere. grocery store, bulk store, blah blah. unflavored preferably, but you can use just jello if you can't find any. make up some jello with less water then the recipe calls for, and toss it into their bucket, and voila. homemade retardedly expensive cricket water. don't forget you still have to gutload them with fruit, veggies, babyfood, or whatever else though.

The only problem is that they will poop all over it and you'll have to change it daily. I used to use sponges, but they were eating that! Now, I just use a little cap, like from a milk jug, and keep it filled with clean water. They can reach it and it's too small for them to drown in.

Yep, it works well to keep them from drowning.... You can also keep a piece of potato or apple in the tank in place of water.

I use fresh fruit to keep them alive but if you keep them too long you get fruit flies!
Make sure to always have paper towel in the cage too tb/c crickets die if they pee on each other gross I know but true!!!
