usally you did need a vet to probe them but thier are several ways that you can tell.one being the tail on a mail it will be thin on a female it will be thicker.and on the male his claws are longer than the females.but to be definately sure have them probed

I was told you have to have a vet probe the snake to get a definite on whether it is male or female. Do some reading on google, you will learn a lot.

We need more details. What type of snakes are they? How old are they? Most snakes arent ready to mate until after their 2-3rd year. They have to be hibernated(brumated) to get the best chances of mating.
