I just moved to Florida from Maryland. I have a male albino corn snake that I purchased as a baby in February, so he's about 5 or 6 months old. He seems to be doing well, he is about 30 inches now. Ever since I moved here the temp. inside the cage is 78 degrees. I want to keep it so that it is 72 on the cool side and 82 on the warm side. I haven't been using the heater because when I did run it, it raised the temperature in the entire cage and went too high. Is there a way to lower the temp in there without just running more air conditioning and turning my whole house cold? I tried running a fan near his cage, but of course it didn't seem to do much to lower the temperature inside. Can a constant 78 temperature negatively affect him or his temperment? Any feedback appreciated, Thank You!

Don't get too caught up with a few degrees and remember that corns are native to Florida. The ones outside are doing just fine in the temps that your weather is providing. We tend to get really anal about the temperatures recommended in the books and forget this.

The temp seems fine 78 is a good temp, I live in CT and didn't use a heater or a light at all, I kept my house in the 70's during the winter and during the summer just the ambient temp of my room. No problems what so ever.

78 degrees is fine for a corn snake . I would not want it any cooler but if it stays at 78 he is fine .

you can get a thermostate at petsmart to plug your uv lamp into it will shut it off when its too hott and turn it back on when its too cold but never use a heat rock they dont feal heat on thier bellies so it will burn them.and they love water so raise the humidity. But it can affect him by he wont eat.and 78 deg is ok just nothing lower than 75 deg and no higher than 100deg dont worry he will be ok.

Just set a heat mat under the tank. Make sure it does not cover the entire floor because you want him to find cool spots when he needs one.
