My son is so upset; he knows now we should have taken it to the river to let it go, but it is too late tonight. Now he believes that the turtle, "Sandwich," will die overnight.

What do you think?

Last two weeks I have noticed that she likes to lay in a sitting position on her basking rock that is partialy submerged in her water pan. She is not laying upside down..her head and top torso is in an upright position against the tank glass and the bottom torso and tail is laying flat on her back....The first time I saw this I was scared that she was hurt/and/or dead...but she wasn't...she likes to sleep that way. She's like that right now and when I get up in the morning she might be in the same position. She is not sick. She scarfs her food, and is fat and sassy...she just sits on her back - which doesn't look comfortable. Does anyone elses lizard relax this way?

My son bought a tree frog about a month ago. All it eats is crickets. I have been buying 2 dzn at a time. It costs less than $2.00. Inside of a weeks time, they are all dead?? I keep a moistened sponge, and a peeled potato, that is what the guy in Petsmart said to do....they are still dying?? I keep them in the container that my son brought the frog home in....it is a plastic container with holes on the lid! I wash the container in hot water to keep it clean in between buying the new crickets! What else can I do? I am tired of constantly going to the pet store!

I found a box turtle in the road so I stopped and went running to get him. He's a cool little guy and is very friendly (he likes to be pet on his head and his neck).

Unfortunately he has a major health concern/injury that I'm attending to, but nonetheless, I went out and got all the gear to take him in and take care of him.

If anyone has any knowledge about box turtles, or knows of an exotic vet that I can send pictures or I can speak to for advice about the care of his injury and how to treat it, I could use the help and would be very appreciative. Thanks!

I know a good bit about regular care for box turtles, but not his injury..

Here is a picture of the injury..

It appears that it's pretty swollen. There is some scabs and abrasions as well. I have been keeping it clean with a solution vets use to clean the animals.

I have two baby red-eared sliders (they are about a year old). I got them a few weeks ago from a friend's mom who no longer wanted them. I take them out of their tank and put them in a smaller one to feed them so their tank doesnt get as messy. I usually feed them separately so I can moniter how much they are each eating. I do this every other day or so. The first week or two I had them they both seemed to be eating fine. Last week I was on vacation so I had a friend feed them. This week I have noticed that one of them is not eating like he used to. He used to eat about 5 or so turtle pellets, but the past couple times I've tried to feed him he has only eaten 1 or 2. Maybe I'm just paranoid and over reacting.. but I don't want him to be sick and not know it... I've read that loss of appetite is a sign of respiratory infection. I'm feeding him the same food he's always had and he has a basking dock and eat lamp and does everything else normal, so I dont know what could be wrong with him

We're in Michigan. Don't know how it got here, but the dogs are greatly interested in it, and I don't want it coming back into the yard, or want it getting run over by a car.

ok i have 5 frogs and a toad. The toad and 4 of the frogs are big enough to eat pinkie mice(and seem to love them) but i hear people say don't more than once a week they are high in fat. Here is my problem, i hate adding artificial stuff to my pets diet IE dusting powers, they don't seem to care for the Dusted crickets much, and Pinkies provide more nutrition than crickets. Has anyone had a frog/toad that was purely pinkie fed? and if so how was his health?Side note i breed mice so i have a good supply of pinkies.

I was considering getting a bearded dragon, but I have young children, are they known to bite? I have a friend who takes care of reptiles but can't ask him until he gets back in the US. I would like to know before hand if anyone has any experience with them and young kids?

My husband and I bought a three toed box turtle yesturday.
We have it in a 50 gallon tank with bedding made with Douglas fir and pete moss. Theres a shaddy spot for her to go to and a shallow water dish big enough to lay in. We are feeding her romaine lettuce, carrots, and pears along with this food that the pet store owner gave us. We bought that 30 dollar light also. The humity runs about 70 percent and the temp is 85 on average right now.

I was wondering though...Besides ofcourse an outdoor habitat, does this one I decribed sound okay?
And can I use a flood light for the basting area? Along with the UB light we bought ofcourse.
And shes not eating right now, do you think its from the stress of moving into a much bigger living space?

First off I bought a kingsnake about 5 days ago he is about 1.5 feet long and about as wide as your index finger. I have him/her In a ten gallon tank with locking screen lid, aspen bedding, 2 shelters one on the hot side one ontop of the underneath heater, water dish, and 2 thermometers. the temperature in the day is on the hot side around 80-82 and the cooler side around 72 and durring the night on the hot side its around 75 and on the cooler side 70.. i know this is a bit cold so any tips on warming it up? i have a undertank heater big enough for a 20 gallon tank.. so i think it would work. He shedded the day i got him, and i fed him yesterday and he hasnt regurgated yet.. so i think thats a good sign. i havent seen him poop yet and have only seen him drink water twice. i am feeding him one pinky every 4 days. he is very gentle and loves being held, so im just wondering if there is anything else i need to do or if there is something im doing wrong, ive done alot of reading so yea

I am having a horrible time with live crickets. Cricket keepers are crappy, and I am totally lost at how to keep my crickets healthy and full of nutrients for my young leos. Both of them let me hand feed them the dead crickets so I was wondering if maybe they would let me hand feed them the canned crickets? Canned crickets are just easier to coat with calcium and vitamins. I just need some help so if anyone would PLEASE help me with this before it drives me crazy, thank you.....I HATE CRICKETS...arghhh

I was just wondering... Her one eye looks sunken in and it waters up alot. I think it might an infection of some sort. Does anyone know how to go about treating it?
