my sister just got a turle and she would like to know

My adult painted sleeps under the water..My Yellow belly sleeps with her head above water...My RES sleeps under water and so does my Map..

You just need to observe them to know!!! They will come up for air if they feel the need...Depends on the individual turtle

Same goes for cats....I have one that likes being held and 2 that don't.......

If I have been getting a turtle, i could like the land variety like a russian tortoise. they are much less stressful to safeguard and take care of. Water turtles like purple eared sliders are high priced to maintain, desire prevalent water differences, and can't truly be dealt with.

both, i have 4 pained turtles, the oldest is 4 years and the youngest in a month... turtles that are in captivity act differently, i have had my turtles sleep on there rocks before. turtles all have different personalities.

In the water.
In the wild, they like to rest in weeds or brush piles just below the surface.

They sleep underwater but spend most of the day on land basking in the sunlight/UV lamp.
