no they are very tempermental.
My husband and I have a ton of animals and finally we decided to get a three toed box turtle a couple of days ago.
In this 60 gallon tank we have to keep the temp just right and the humidity which is an all day process (it might change one the turtle gets better adapted to its habitat) My husband and I wanted a more high maintenance pet though so we were prepared for it. We have to take it to a vet also next week because it looks like she might have an eye infection, which is one of the things that go along with having a turtle. Thats going to be a pretty penny.
Same with Aqua turtles, they need a special light to digest food and special living conditions.

The most low maintenance animals we own is a mouse, hermit crabs or fish, they are so easy to take care of and its fun to watch them.

They are very high maintenance. For more info on complete care go to www.austinsturtlepage.com. If you think you can provide for all of their special needs, then they make awesome pets! Most reptiles are higher maintenance, though some snake species are not too bad.
Low maintenance pets would be a hamster or gerbil, but they still need weekly cage cleaning and feeding daily.

Turtles are not low maintenance pets. I have one and you have to clean their water a lot. I also have a tortoise which is a little bit less work, but a lot more money. I would go with hermit crabs for something low maintenance.

Dont go the turtle route. I would go the fish route. The reason for this? You can buy a complete goldfish kit for 40 bucks and a couple of fish for a buck. The kit will tell you how to set the fish tank up and everything else there is about the fish. I have four goldfish and I bought a fish kit. It came with a tank, a cover, filter, net, food and a small light. I had the fish for over a year now.

turtles are not low maintenance. You need to change the water frequently or it will stink. You need a filter for the water. Heat lamp and UV light for them as well. Which is where the expense come in. If they are not taken care of properly many things can go wrong.

my cousin has a pet turtle. A turtle is pretty boring. All you do is feed him, clean his bowl, refill the bowl with clean water time to time... but it sort of gives you a sense of responsiblity and a little happy feeling. Other than that a turtle is boring. I suggest u not get a turtle. After 2 weeks we bought that turtle. We forgot about it sometimes. ><

NO NO NO NO NO!!!

turtles and tortoises live for a long time, get pretty messy, and should be left only to the experienced herpetologist.

go for a hamster instead.

turtles, especially aquatic, are very high matinence. my family and i got three (aquatic babies)-- one for each of the kids in the family, without any knowledge on taking care. once i got home, did the research, and was super surprised. aquatic turtles need 10 gallons of aquarium for each inch of their shell! they need special basking UVB lights and water heaters. also, they may carry salmonella (wash your hands!)!
: ) i love my turts anyway. i dont really take care of them as well (or expensive... i dont have the lamp yet...) as specialists and stuff say to. two have lasted so far... fish are low matinence. no walking or special lamps or stuff. :D
