Hello, I was wondering what are some good beginer reptiles I can get (I dont want a turtle) since my mom wont let me get a snake >.<. I want to be able to interact with my pet (as in hold it and stuff) What are some good reptiles I can take out of the cage and hold and stuff? I have a 10gal Aquarium tank. (I rather not buy another tank because I just bought this one but all my fish died from the water temp getting to high :( I tryed to get the tank cooled but it hit too high by the time I got home from school and such and couldnt save them.) But yeah, tell me what you think about some good playfull reptiles besides snakes. Thanks.

I just received a 6 year old box turtle about 7 months ago, (my cousin raised him from a baby), and I found that he only wants to eat vegetables. I offer him meals like fresh corn on the cob, boiled, and bananas and earthworms. He only eats the vegetables and fruits though. Can he be vegetarian?

A cat got it out or something but it escaped. I hadn't notice until my dad told me when I got home from school. We found out that both of my turtles were not in the tank outside. We ran all over the backyard to find them. We found one. We searched for the second one but gave up after 20 mins of searching. We put the one that we found on the grass hoping that it diddn't die. We were about to throw it away since it diddnt move and there were lots of ants on it. I started to squirt water in it's shell. It's head popped out! I was wondering why its feat and arms diddn't come out. My dad and I thought it was just because the turtle was just looking around. When we put it back in the tank, it started floating and its legs and arms diddn't come out. I started to look inside it's shell to see where did the arms and legs go but they were probably bitten by something! I told my dad and he said it would heal. I don't think so though.

I've had my turtle since I was nine and it's been eight years. a couple of months ago he stopped eating and would just lay around in his bowl of water, sleep all the time. and for the past two weeks i had been asking my mom if we could take him to the vet. we finally did yesterday and the veterenarian was talking about how he had shell-rot and something else. but he said that anything else could be wrong with my turtle but you cant tell because of the shell and turtles dont show many signs. we ended up leaving him at the vet so they could put him to sleep because even if we paid a ton of mony for antibiotics there's no guarntee he would make it. so my mom had been feeling bad and saying that it's her fault even when I told her it wasnt. what else could I say to her to make her feel better?

I'm not scared of holding her, but really do not want to be bitten in the face, or this to continue, especially since the average adult is from 8-12 ft. I've had her for 1 year. My other snakes, ball's haven't ever bitten me. I've increased her feeding to a jumbo dead rat every 10-14 days, do you think this is too long of a waiting time? How often should I be holding her to reduce this behavior. She's a keeper, like I said I just don't want a face bite, and I want my 4 year old to continue to be able to hold her with some pre-cautions of course.

I got a Savannah Monitor last saturday. I have two general information questions to better help me in caring for it.

1) How do I tell what sex my Sav is?

Kinda important when finding a name.

2) Signs that my Sav is stressed or uncomfortable?

It seems very alert and curious of it's surroundsings. Wanders around it's enclosure several minutes before finding a nice spot to sit and bask. When I reach inside the enclosure it watches my hand, does a little hissing and has darted at my hand. BUT no biting all bluffs and trying to scare me. However once I pet it a few times, and give it a chance to smell me then it will allow me to pick it up without a problem. Once in my hand it'll squirm a bit, then will rest in my hand for over an hour. While there it is very alert to its surroundings always looking around and seeing what moves, whos talking and who is closest to it, and only tenses up and squirms a tiny bit when it catches a glimpse of my dog. It seems comfortable and happy.

My boyfriends mum & dad have a tortoise called Toby, and have had him for about 15 years and he lives in the garden quite happily but the other day, Toby laid an egg!
We don't know too much about this and just wondered if anyone had any info?? Unfortunately, after 'he' had laid the egg in a hole 'he' had dug, Toby squashed the egg.
Not sure what breed Toby is but 'he's' definately not a Herman Tortoise, 'his' shell is quite flat and 'he's' about 30cm long.
Any idea why 'he' had laid an egg and why now after 15 years of not doing it??
Any help is appreciated.......

Hi.

My sulcata just lay 20 eggs. I have a chick incubator that was given to me. What are the procedure that is needed to incubate my sulcata eggs? I'm been doing some research online some say to incubate them in a closed container, and some say to incubate them in an open container? Can Yahoo Answer provide me with a definite answer as to how to incubate the eggs? Also a exact detail as to what are the procedure and what stuff to look for doing incubation. Do I need to spray mist water on the eggs? Thanks.

I just found my turtle dead, and he was immobile, nor did he look in my general direction for two weeks before he died. Do you think he was depressed?

ok to feed puppies to snakes. The only reason i'm asking this question is because here in Arizona there is a case where a man fed a puppy to a snake (in front of 2 teenagers) and was arrested for it. People buy mice, rats, and rabbits and sometimes even have them "pre-killed" at the petstore for the purpose of food for their snake. They are all Mammals...

I have 2 , they are young...will fit in the palm of your hand. As far as I know, one is male...not sure about the other. They seem to get along fine together. They used to be out in the open quite a bit. But now, they seem to stay in their hiding places most of the time. One is fairly calm, but the other still runs away if you walk into the room. I've tried feeding them some live food...meal worms, and they have also eaten moths before. Any suggestions about them...how to get them to calm down. I try to let them see me feed them, but they always seem to run and hide. Tell me about any experience/suggestions anyone has with these.
