I have had this beardie for about a year and a half.....used to be very friendly and non aggresive
i walked in the room to feed and the beard was blackend and when i tried to pick the beardie up it showed its beard and tried to get as big as possible
my bearded dragon never did this befor
can anyone tell me why this may be happening ......and how i can possibly change it????

it is natural, he is growing up, he is becoming sexually mature, he can see his own reflection in the cage, and many of them, because of the 4 walls. reptiles have a striclyt visual memory, they know there surroundings, so he sees another male in his territory and is getting pissed, it is spring so it is full on breeding season. he should mellow out by mid summer, but you can easily tape up some paper inside the cage where he most often sees himself and that will calm him down a bit

Mating Seasons for Bearding Dragons is a fact i do not know but it might be now. This makes reptiles more aggresive. It may also be sick which means you might want to take it to the vet.

He could be stressed and taking it out on you holding him. He could be getting "sexually mature" and that will make them aggressive and "show off" like. Just give him some space let him calm down or unstressed make sure his temps and everything is all normal. Give him a little time and try again. But you don't want to keep agitating a stressed lizard. Give it a couple days (if you can) and dont hold him. Then try again. If he starts to show these signs again then back off and he needs more time.

got a kid, or any "new friends" around that may be irritating the beardie? thumping on the glass or mistreating him?

sound's like you dragon wants a mate. If you socialize your dragon with other dragon's ,You should see calming effect.

may as well keep a boa constrictor- reptiles
just don't appreciate being constrained.
