The turtle was suffering. If a human was suffering so much wouldnt you want to help end the suffering? This is what is called a merciful death. Your turtle would have died anyway, it would have to go through such pain before it died. You made a choice thatallowed the turtle to die comfortably. If it was me and I was dying - I would rather you pull the plug instead of letting me suffer.

Well, there really isn't much you can do. Just tell her that he did live a pretty long life, compared to most pet turtles. At least you went to the vet where as some people just ditch them in the wild or feel bad and dont do anything about it. Tell her that the only thing you couldve done different was get there sooner and she just figured he would be ok. It turns out she was wrong. Its not her fault that she isn't a turtle expert. How was she supposed to know. Sure there was stuff you couldve done but its done and over. Im really sorry for your loss. And tell her it wasn't anybody's fault, turtles die, the world turns. Better luck next time. Just give your mom some extra love. And tell her (if you cant convince her) that you dont blame her and you forgive her for not getting him to the vet sooner. Again, sorry for your loss. Hope you can get your mom to understand that you don't blame her.

In reality, it is difficult to convince a person that they are not at fault for certain events. Time will more than likely be the only thing.
I highly recommend you call the vet you guys visited and ask him to help you out talking to your mom. Nothing like the pros.
Pets go through many of the same things we humans go through. They live and they die just as well as we do.
Your mom took the turtle to the vet when you guys started to notice a pattern and that is all she could have done.
I am sorry for your loss.... best wishes and best of luck

Tell her... way to go mom! just kidding. just reassure your mom that the death of the critters was an accident. Maybe you can tell your mom that when it comes to pets there's going to be the inevitable (death) and it's not her fault. Turtles die the same as all other pets and although is a sad thing, it can't be stopped and not to worie and smile. Let her know that 8 years is a long time to have any pet and your turtle has been sick for a long time. She'll get over it with your support.

I am afraid that mom will have to deal with this one herself . I hope you know that turtles just die like that sometimes . It is no ones fault . I hope that she does feel better in time . good luck and I am sorry for your loss .

you say that it wasn't her fault. it was just the turtle's time to go to a better place. he would have been happier knowing that everyone was happy that he was going to a much better place where he could do whatever he pleased without getting in trouble.

It depends on your feelings towards this incident.
If you feel it's not her fault then simply tell her that you do not blame her and look her in the face - in her eyes - and tell her so. When she begins talking about it again, gently say "mom, let it go".
If you feel it was her fault then say "I forgive you, let it go".
The point here is to LET IT GO! Gently tell her. Beyond that, there's nothing you can do. She is the one holding on to this.

give your mom time she will eventuallyand hopefully get over it let her no that its not her fault but if she keeps insisting that it is let her no you forgive her and she can replace the turtle with maybe iguana,or snake,or some kind of foreign creature

its sad anytime a pet dies and some take it badly when they die so the best thing to do is let her figure this one out she feels bad but will eventually move on
good luck

Kinda was her fault for not taking it earlier but it happens a lot you never really know the right time for animals- shame they cant talk! Cheaper vets would help too
