I just found my turtle dead, and he was immobile, nor did he look in my general direction for two weeks before he died. Do you think he was depressed?

Well... he's in a tank, he has little water in there so he wouldn't get too soft, and he was eating, then he stopped...

I didn't know his water needed to be treated... wow. There's a lot of things I didn't know...

And yes, my baby was small. It just might have been salmonella or however you spell it.

And it's not like I meant to kill him. I loved that turtle like a son. I took him out and put him in the sun, and he stayed warm by crawling up to my chest, and slept or whatever turtles do.

It's saddening, but I guess I have to bury him. There's no way I could give him away to science...

You know if a turtle can't move and is immobile that will lead to dehydration and starvation. So I am thinking maybe that may have killed him especially if he wasn't near water or food and couldn't move to get it.

Could have been a number of reasons.
If the turtle was small then it was most likely salmonella.
Was it eating?Did it have any fungus around its skin? When you get a turtle you have to have make sure you get a filter and all the right chemicals to remove chlorine, fungus, break down waste, etc.

Depressed? No.

Death is almost always the result of flaws in cares. Low water temps, poor diet, bad housing, etc.

Without knowing the species or other information, about all I can offer is to review the basic cares at http://www.austinsturtlepage.com

well... to tell you the truth...

your little turtle friend might have seen it coming for him and knew the end was near...

i would just bury him under a nice oak or willow tree and deal with it...

if you need to cope with this loss you could always go to a therapist
