Turtles have hard shells from a very early age. Being reptiles, turtles also live for a long long time. Over the course of their life their shell seems to grow with them to accomodate their growing body. So what is the shell made of? is it bone? some type of hair? How can it be so hard yet expand with their body?

What is it about tortoises that make them that adorable?I have once had a small tortoise which died 7 days after /i bought it then I bought another one which also died, though I was very careful taking care of them. I feel I am responisble for their death but am still considering having two tortoises. My parents object to having pets, but I do love animals and tortoises are adorable and the least messy? Should I try having one or two again?

I have 2 red eared sliders (RES) for about 2 months now and in that time 1 of them have nearly doubled his/her size while the other won;t grow. Is there something wrong with it? Also when my turtles meet face to face in the water they look at each other then put their hands by their heads, move their heads closer (as if they were about to kiss), then go about their business. Is this odd or is this just the way RES behave???

My friend has a "soft shell snapping turtle", it 's shell length is about 9in. long and length of neck with head is about 6 in. long when extended. It lives in an aquarium of water and eats live goldfish and Aquatic Turtle Food, and once in a while a tapeworm extends about 7 in. out of it's rectum, shortly after it's gone. I don't know if it goes back in or if the turtle eats it. I have looked for remidies but can't find for aquatic animals.Anybody know anything?

hello all, I dont know a lot about reptiles, but I was wondering if its ok to get a Chameleon as a pet!! First of all, Are they safe or poisonous? IF they are safe, do they transfer some kind of a disease or anything to human beings?
