You should never blindly or impulsively buy an animal for a pet. ALWAYS research pets before you buy them. Each species/breed/etc. has its own special diet and caring needs. You will need to find a pet store owner or preferably a vet that specialises in exotic pets and reptiles to figure out what kind of turtle you have and how to take care of it. (Unfortunately, most vets do not know how to care for sick or injured reptiles.) This is a big responsibility that often becomes a hassle and ends with non-native turtles being released into unfamiliar water habitats where they either die or become invasive species. Please find out what you can about your baby turtle from someone who knows what they are talking about and take the best care of it.

You should always know about the animal before getting one. Is it a water turtle or a land turtle? If its a water turtle then you'll need a tank....gravel and somthing for it to hide under and climb onto to get out of the water. Put water in the tank so it covers the turtle but don't fiil the tank. Get a heat lamp and only have it on for part of the day and don't put it directly over the tank. Buy pellets for it to eat ...only place a couple in the water a few times a day...whatever it doesn't eat get it out of the tank and throw it away. They also make little tabs you can put in the water for the turtle's shell...if its malnurished the shell will be soft! Clean the tank every 2 days. If its' a land turtle then you will need a bigger container...buy some repti bark and put in the bottom...a heat lamp also...if you could make a slope with the bark and in the small part put a little water for her. They like to eat veggies especially lettuce.

you should def figure out the name of the turtle..in the future ask questions before you buy. Every turtle is different there are box turtles and there are waterturtles. Once you find out the kind it is..there are a lot of sites online that give very good info on each..you can find out the kind of turtles by lookin up his color and browsin turtles pictures :) good luck and hope you and your pet does well

Yep, definately sounds like the Red Ear Slider (Trachemys scripta elegans).
They make some great turtle tanks that have the side notched for a filter to be mounted to. They are very aquatic. Put up a basking spot for them to perch and bask to keep their shell hard, otherwise the rest can be all water.

Basking spot bulb along with UV bulbs or a bulb that has both should be on your purchase list if you havent so already.

Turtle food pellets along with crickets and/or minnow feeders for their food.

Look up some great caresheets on them and good luck.

That's a Red-Eared Slider. It's aquatic, so give it a home with water, a flat rock to sit on, filters for the water, and turtle food, and it'll be fine.
