there are people out there who insist on getting problem horses young horses who cannot handle a riding school pony.
im all for encouraging people to get involved with horses but ive seen what can happen when it goes wrong and ive done my fair share of rehabilatating some of these poor horses.
these pages are full of people asking for help when all they really require is some prior training and ongoing support from a trainer. i was taught you never stop learning with horses and there is a 100% commitment from you to carry on learning for the good of the horse.
so thats my rant,
how many people out there believe possible horse owners should undergo a test like a driving test, to cover basic care ? im sure im not the only person out there to think like this

i had a large rat breeding project. about 30 odd rats at a time. they had a huge cage with plenty space 4 everyone. and plenty food, the cage cleaned regularly.
one day i got home, and the one female, and the one big male have been eaten! and there was a real disgusting smell in the cage.
over the next few days they pretty much killed each other off. i saved 3 and had to kill 5 others cause they were looking real sick.
i've never seen this before, or any of my mates heard of it either.
i live on a country estate, and wonder if this might be a contributing factor.
any ideas or feedback would be appreceated.
i have stopped the breeding project, and have even burnt the cage clean.

I have a stunning Mini Pinto stallion, and recently I have had a few enquiries about breeding him to larger mares to get nice coloured pony foals.
Obviously the height difference would make it difficult, but I have heard of people using pits etc to put the mare in so that the stallion can reach.
So, other than the size difference (he is 10hh), if he was able to breed to a mare that is around 14-15hh (small Thoroughbred), would the foal be born normal?
Has anyone ever heard of any cases of a foal being born from a stallion and mare that are 4 or 5 hands different in height? (I'd love links to websites!)

I was going to vote on the best answer today but the question has closed, thank you for the answers. I was going to vote for the answer by the horse owner and have already contacted Camrosa and ordered products.
I really enjoyed reading the suggestions and have printed them all off for future reference!
A big thank you

Its just i have read so many questions about sick animals and their owners, obviously knowing the animal is ill, ask on here what they should do. Especially questions on animals in labour. Its like they dont even call a vet and ask advice. It just angers me.
They wouldnt if it was a sick child, they would take them to the doc, so whats the difference for an animal!?

After all of the concern over the pet food recall, I am seriousley considering switching my beloved pets to a raw meat and bones diet. Have any of you done this? Is it better? How can I be sure that my pets are getting the nutrition they need from raw meat and bones? Could the bones harm them? What about bacteria from raw meat? Any advise or even opinions will be much appreciated. I have been feeding my pets Nutro, but only the dry stuff. Thanks!

Have you ever had a non-tapper?

I don't think I've ever had a non-tapper and I've owned gerbils for over 20 years.

He tapped once and he has hit maturity. He's about 8 months old. I don't go around trying to scare him or pushing him to date so... Any ideas?

My chinchilla broke a bar on my fence that keeps him and the dogs separate and got under it. The dog and chinchilla are used to seeing each other because its clear, and the dog has smelled it before, when it got though the dog didn't bite or pick it up, just licked it a ton, or at least thats all i saw, its possible it was picked up, but there are no visible bite marks.

Now the chinchilla will barly move at all, just the tail and blink pretty much, when i put him in the cage he lays on his side which he never does, wont even take a dust bath. What could be wrong? What should I do? No place to take him tonight.

My two-year old sister was bitten by our puppy, and I do not know what is the chance of her getting an infection... she was bitten because she was annoying the Lhasa Apso puppy. Our dog is up-to-date on all her vaccinations, and also has not been in contact with any other dogs. The minute after my sister was bitten, we put hydrogen peroxide on her hand and rubbing alcohol to kill the germs. (She was not bitten very deep, just deep enough to make her hand bleed a bit.) Did we react well, and will she be ok?

Well, her name is Poko. She is a 14 year old mare and is saddlebroke. However, she is skittish on the trails and would need about 2 weeks at the trainers. she used to be a racehorse, but she was bought from a complete moron by the woman who runs the stable that i plan to board at.

What else? oh yeah, this would be my first horse and she is really patient with me. I have seen a lot of horses that i want to buy, but none like her. I really am considerring to buy her. Any opinions?
