I have owned many hamsters, but this is my first time owning gerbils. Today I bought a male and a female. Neither are full grown, but the female is a little bigger than the male. They were kept in separate cages in the pet store, so I'm not sure they ever met each other, but the cages shared a glass wall. I put them both into the new cage, and at first they seemed to get along well, but now they are having little almost fights, they scuffle for about two seconds, then run apart. I'm not sure if I should be concerned. Will they never be able to live together, or is this a normal behavior to establish dominance? The smaller, male has been squeaking a little when the female is near, I don't think he's in any pain and they both appear healthy. If you have gerbil experience, advice would be awesome.

I am thinking of opening up a pet store in my home town, the closest thing we have where I live is an hour to two away, and the stores are always messy, too crowded to walk in and more importantly the conditions that the animals are forced to live in are horrible !!!
I want a store where the animals are treated like they are at home and not always in cages.
I have an idea for the location, but I have no clue how to even start looking into grants for funding, companies for the merchandise to sell,etc.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I just want to add that I want to do this because I am an
animal lover and can't stant the thought of making pet and pet supply purchases from a company that supports puppy mills.
This also means that the animals will be purchased from local breeders so that I can personally check their previous living conditions.I also want to work with local pet shelters for finding homes for abandoned animals by offering adoption services.

I read that guinea pigs only have 2 nipples.. but I think mine may have 3. Either that or it's a belly button. He has his 2 normal nipples.. but he has an other one right in between them, it kind of creeps me out. Any suggestions as to what this may be, and do you think it's something to worry about.

Why are people now getting a little to obbessed with penguins? I mean look at the movies 'Happy Feet' and now 'Surfs up' and 'March of the Penguins' don't get me wrong I think they are cool animals but I mean I think we may be getting to obbessed with penguins like last year it was this HUGE obbession with monkies now penguins. Is it just that we need something to be obbessed over for a year then go to the next animal or thing or person?

I am a very sad previous owner of a cat that died just last Monday, March 12th...Walmart Special Kitty foil pouches are on the list and that is all Rocky ever ate...he wouldn't ever eat anything else. Rocky was only sick 3-4 days before he died of renal and kidney failure......I am trying to find others that had pets die of this.....I am seriously considering taking action. The people need to have some liability for what they put in the food for our pets to ingest....others that have had deaths due to this please email me. Thanks!

I have two girl rabbits. One of them is almost fully grown and grunts when she's angry or afraid. The other one is like a baby but not a baby. Once when i put the younger one with the older one they and fought. Well actually the older one bit the other one.
I have been afraid to put them together since. I have a big crack that leads to the other floor(there is a top floor and a bottom floor) and the younger one must have fallen through. I had no idea that this had happened until my dad said "are those rabbits suposed to be together?" I rushed outside and found out the older one was actually cuddling with the other one to keep warm. So I just left them that way. But do other girl bunnies fight?? And what happens when summer comes around the corner when it's warm??
will they fight then??

I buy the Frontline brand, the one for the big dog. and end up using for all of my animals? I have several cats and dogs. my question is is there a better brand? One that will last me a long time? And kill the eggs? I know frontline will but is there a better brand? Not worried about price.

the mother was trying to kill her many of you suggested i remove her as she is the runt. when i went to feed her early this morning i held her in my hand and put her on her back. i then noticed a bad smell and looked to see a large black hard area around her genitals up to her stomach. she is only 2 weeks old. i suspect she will die within a day or so, can someone tell me what they think this is? thanks.

hey guys i need your halp naming this little guy. i have a 7 1/2 month old baby paint horse, he is mostly white with some brown or black (we arnt shure withch yet cus his coat is changing colors) on his head and one side. he has 2 blue eyes. he is verry sweet and willing to learn. hes allways fallowing me around like a little puppy dog. plus hes kinda spunky but most the time he is calm and colected. we have tryed to name him scence the day he was born but we havent been able to finde aneything great. than when he was 5 months old his mom kaite girl died. so we want to kinda tye eather her name or the fackt that he was on his own at a young age in with his name some how. we want his name to have a meaning and really fit his personality.

This is a situation I haven't faced before.

My upstairs neighbors recently got a new puppy. As annoying as it is that this dog barks the entire time they are not home, they are also leaving the puppy unattended from anywhere from ten to thirty minutes on the balcony.

I have never seen them walk this dog, so I am assuming that they are just putting it out on the balcony to do it's business, which I find totally disgusting.

My question is how to tactfully deal with this? Should I call animal control or the police? Or do you think the apartment office would handle this?

why does nothing seem to be happening to stop the slaughter of dolphins in japan. knowing that they are intelligent .if anyone saw it on the news and felt like i did . so sad and disgusted. that there was no acknowledgement to the fact that they are feeling sensitive living things and not a root veg. why are humans so capable of such atrocities i really dont understand
