The pet food recall just shows that dog and cat foods sold in local grocery stores and big chain pet stores are not the best way to feed your pets. Most of these canned and dry foods lack all the nutrients that an animal needs. If your dog or cat loves and craves a certain food it's not because it's good for them, it's because they aren't getting the vitamins and nutrients their bodies need to keep healthy and live long. Anyone who owns a pet should try to feed it the absolute best food they can afford which means food from a health food store or raw food. There are many brands out there that most people have never heard of which are not that much more expensive and so much better for their pets. Check with a smaller pet store and see what brands they carry. I personally feed my cats Inova, Evolve and Merritts brands of cat food. They love it and it's good for them. It's full of healthy ingredients, not chemicals. If this pet food recall has scared you, do something about it.

I have recently bought a new hamster from a good pet store. He's very healthy and seems happy in his new home. He's never been handled by anyone but the pet store owner. I've been giving him peices of apple and he now eats from my hand and i've just been petting his back. He no longer squeals, but i'm wondering if i'm taming him right. Is this good? Thanks.

We have a 100-gallon Rubbermaid stock tank for our horse. Lately, algae has been growing in the tank -- probably due to the hay, grass, and feed bits the horse drops in when he drinks. How can we control the algae? Is there a better way than draining and cleaning (which seems to waste a lot of water)

I'm finding mixed info as to whether Hill's, Science Diet was affected in the recall. I didn't find any info on their website either.
I feed my dog and cats dry food primarily but they all have a few cans in the pantry and I wasn't sure if I should just throw them away or not.

Thanks

I have a 21 yr old thoroughbred mare who I want to put in foal. She is extremely fit and healthy, regularly ridden, and up to date with all health checks. She still acts like a four year old and certainly doesn't look her age. She has been in foal a couple of years ago but the yard came down with a virus and she lost it, a good few months into the pregnancy. Is she too old to breed from? Also, what breed stallion should I put her to? She's 15.2hh and I'd like to cross her with something a bit chunkier.

I am considering becoming an RSPCA inspector: I have been on the website whereby it details entry requirements. I fulfill all the entry requirements except one: I don't have a drivers licence!! Does anyone know if this is a core requirement or if it is a desirable requirement?? It's just that I have never taken lessons as I have never had any desire to drive a car.

If it is a core requirement to have a drivers license I am possibly willing to take lessons so that I can apply for this job!

I recently built my own barn so i could keep my horse at home. I have rode and worked with horses for 15+ years so I think I'd like to rent my extra space and board other peoples horses. My farrier and horse friends think my prices are fair, I have advertised locally, but still no business. What can I do?
