Vinegar is a nice animal safe cleaner, it also does a good job neutralizing any urine smells.
While you're cleaning, anything your comfortable with - a box, the tub, a laundry basket.

You could put them in the bath, a box, or a small room if they are easy to catch, but don't put it somewhere where it can escape! When you are cleaning out the cage, try making a mix of plain white vinegar half and half with water in a spray bottle, spraying it onto the cage and then wiping it iff. It is a great disenfectant and saves lots of money that would otherwise be spent on vet bills, de-worming the guinea pig!
Hope this helps

I recently lost a guinea pig that a neighbor gave us...he passed away quietly of old age.
I suggest the bathtub would be a good place to allow your guinea pig to be during the cage cleaning. Then after the cage is clean...just run an inch or two of water into the tub. Shampoo it and rinse with clean water. A hand held shower nozzle is great to use. If it needs brushing, it is best to brush before the bath than afterwards. Towel him off good and place him back into his cage once he is dry if you use shavings in his cage. He may remain in the tub after the water is released to air dry. Then disinfect the tub with a good antibacterial cleanser. Everybody's clean and happy!

I just tkae the top part of the cage off the base and set it down on the floor or bed. if you put he rhouse in there as well she wont likely try to get out of the cage. Also, guineas need lots of out of the cage time so if you just let her run around the room would be great for her. make sure no wires are on the ground and your vents are taped up :)

I used to get the kids to watch the guinea pig when I cleaned his cage (when I had one). Still do it with my cockatiel.
If she's not old enough for that you can put him in a clothes basket.

A large high sided cardboard box so she can't jump out is one option. Or a wire run outside on grass. Or if she is a house guinea you could let her have the run of a room, however the room must be secure, have no wires or dangerous object on the floor, be chew proof and no small gaps she can squeeze into. Wherever you put her she should be supervised so that she cant get into any danger.

Maybe one of those cute running balls, or if you don't have that handy and you are just making a quick change to the shavings and such, maybe a shoebox with the lid taped on for the short time.

If you have a card-board box, that should work, or a VERY large plasic 'bug-catcher'. I have a VERY large one that I put my chinchilla in when I clean thier cage.....
