I have a maiden mare, due now, with blood coming from the left teat when I test her milk. She does not have bleeding, unless she is milked, which is necessary to test for impending foaling. The right teat fluid is normal. The vet has no answers and no recommended treatment. There is no heat, swelling or obvious pain in the area. This does not seem normal to me, and I am a pretty experienced breeder. I haven't found anything on search addressing this problem. The foal should be born within the next week, and I would like to clear this up. Just looking for ideas or previous experience with this problem. Thanks!

For instance, do you believe or have you seen a horse pout, pitch a fit like a child, die of a broken heart. If you have, I would love to hear about it. I have a filly that will climb up on the back porch and knock on the door when she wants attention. I have seen her pout as well.

When I got my horse, he rubbed his mane off. Now, six months late it's grown but it stands straight up. I'd like him to have a longer mane so I can do stuff with it. Any suggestions?

My daughter recently (about a week ago) changed the gerbil's diet from dry cat food to fresh fruits and veggies.(Cut carrots; lettuce, grapes) And, she just recently cleaned out all the shaved cardboard. This morning he was acting lethargic; perked up for a shortly while but by noon was dead.
We purchased him about 3 - 5 months ago. Any ideas?

I live out in the country and I love cows. I was thinking about getting a cow to keep in my large back yard and it would be only a pet. I know that there has to be at least an acre per cow, but I am only going to keep it as a pet, so can I just feed it hay instead of letting it graze on grass all day? Also, just like they make minuture horses, do they make miniature cows? If so, what is the breed? Around how much does the average dairy cow cost? How much does a cow eat each day? Remember, I love cows and it will be a pet, not a livestock animal that will graze all day. Please send any information to me by giving me your email address and I will email you with more questions. Thank You!

Her teeth are healthy and she has a good apitite but her coat is dull. She's very active and shows no signs of being sick. She's just skinny and has a dull coat. She has been this way since I have had her. My male is fat and happy and shiny coat. I feed them regular farret crunchy food and I use "yesterdays news" litter. Any ideas?

ok i have two pet gerbils ( males , 5 and a half weeks old ) and i am in the middle of taming them ( they are still skiddish )but recently one of them has begun to bite me ..... HARD. i am careful with them , they have had plenty of time to adapt to life with out mommy , and they have food\water , and lots of stuff to play with in the cages ( a plastic\wire cage and an aquarium connected by a tube ). but like i was saying i am holding them and out of no where *CHOMP*.... and it bleeds.
things i have tryed
-being paceint ( sorry for bad spelling )
- picking him up more gentlly
-handling him more , then putting him back when he bites

dont even suggest
-using gloves
-taking him back
-anything involving separation

*takes gerbil out*......*CHOMP*....ouch....places him back in the cage with his sweet brother

They are given all the hay they can eat, a tarp shelter and heated water. They also have thick winter coats and blankets on. Current temp. is -12. The live outside 24-7 and have been since September.
Just looking for anything anyone else knows of that might make them a little more comfortable until the weather breaks on Wednesday.

I had two cats. My first one, Dixie, had difficulties when we had her spayed . She never walked the same after the surgery and she was diagnosed with neurological damage. Dixie slowly seemed to give up on life, even though she otherwise appeared healthy. We decided to get a kitten to maybe cheer her up. It took a little while, but they became the best of friends and Dixie was happy again. They spent two years together when Trixie (the kitten) tragically died this fall. I don't think Dixie ever recovered from the loss or her friend and she also just passed. She seemed to still be in good health but I surprisingly found her dead one afternoon. Does anyone else believe that she may have died from a broken heart?

It's really cold in Illinois (in the negatives) and my horse (a 14 yr old gelding) is stocked up and stiff. Someone told me it was because of the weather, but I'm wondering if he's being overfed.
