That's a tough one considering I own both. I have 14 cats and 3 dogs. The dogs are 1) wolf hybrid 2) spaniel mix 3) pom./papillon mix. I have older cats, mid-aged ones and 3 under 15 months. 8 of our 14 cats are rescues and 2 of our 3 dogs are rescues (#3 two Friday's ago). We also have rescued about 6 of our 22 hamsters. We're also trying to catch the companion cat that was abandoned with the pom./pap. mix Some from being injured by other hamsters at pet stores. I have many reason as to why each is my favorite, but my cats take the edge a bit more. If we go away I can put enough food out for up to a week, leave large containers of water out and make sure the litter pans are fresh before I leave. Also open the cat door so they can come and go when they want to and their good to go. The dogs, I need to have someone there daily to feed, water and walk them. This is my only reason for choosing cats over dogs.

I prefer dogs because they're easier to understand. I can usually look at a dog and know what "mood" he's in -- playful, aggressive, non-confrontational, etc. Cats are a lot hard to read than dogs.
I also like dogs best because I think they're a lot friendlier and cuddly. I've seen some cats who were like that, but for the most part, they seem a bit stand-offish.

I prefer dogs over cats for several reasons, I have 2 small dogs that live in the house with me. I am disabled and my children are grown, and these 2 dogs are my best friends. They are house trained and very protective, I don't have to worry about someone breaking into my house because when they hear a car in the drive way they run to the door and keep barking until they know who it is. I have to admit that i never realized how smart dogs were until I spent years with these 2. I know a cat cannot let you know when someone is messing around your house. My dogs seem sorta human (in a way). They lay at my feet when I'm sitting and follow me from room to room, in fact wherever I go they follow me. They also have ways of telling me when they need to go outside, and when their food or water bowl is empty. I have also noticed at times when I cried, they would lay their head on my feet and sorta cried too. Amazing, how dogs can be so attached to humans. Dogs are better pets I think because they tend to want to protect and dominate a certain place, your home, your yard, your kids, and yourself. I know cats don't do any of these things, but, cats are very pretty and lovable, dogs will also kill rats better than a cat (in my opinion). Dogs can even hear noises that humans can't hear. My dogs even wake me up barking and scratching on the mattress when they hear something outside. I have also heard of dogs waking up family members when the house was on fire. Thats very important when you live alone. I hope my dogs live forever, and I'm thankful to have the company they give me. They are blessings for sure

I prefer dogs. I like them because they always act like it has been a year since they had seen you. Dogs are very emotional and will love you right away. Cats on the other hand tend to be hard to please at first. Some cats never really come around, they just have stuck up attitudes. I had a Lhasa Apso, and it was the most adorable dog I have ever seen. Dogs, all the way.......

definitely cats. The ones we've had have always been friendly and litter trained. Leaving the yard mostly clean for children to play in. I tried cleaning up the yard while dogsitting my dad's dog and ended up vomiting twice on the first scoop, but have never had that problem emptying the litter box. Ok so I can hold my breath the whole time for that. Plus in arctic conditions like now the cat is perfectly content to stay inside while a dog must be taken out.

A cat. dogs require too a lot upkeep. You not in any respect ought to shop on with a cat and %. up it is poo. you do not ought to stroll your cat. you do not have associates yelling at you to shop your cat quiet. you do not have mice. Cat's may be educated to crap in a muddle field. Cat's not in any respect favor a bathtub. Cats do not chew on your stuff once you bypass to paintings. in case you bypass on a holiday, you merely favor adequate dry nutrition, a sparkling muddle field and a water source for the cat. For a canines.....nicely, it is harder.

I would choose a dog because cats are not that playfull maybe cuddly and cute but they sometimes do not play with you even if they are not tired.
