I've had tropical fish for a loooooong time now, and as I'm sure anyone know's who has them, the Danio's are incredibly active! But i'm starting to find now that they keep attempting to jump out of the water - just before as I was changing the tank light, one managed to jump out! And at nights, I keep hearing the splashing sound from under the hood (tank is in bedroom).

My own idea was that maybe the water temperature was too high - I know that when fish do feel the heat, they do get tempted to jump out of the water.
But if anyone has any other ideas, then pleeease tell me! And what expieriences have you had with the danio's? I've currently got a shoal of Leapord D's, Rummy nosed tetras, neon tetra's, and some orange platty's (why do they produce som much poo?)

Thanks guys!

I have an oscar pretty good size in a large tank. He has a dino eel and pleco with him. My question is how do I tell if it is a male or female? Can I get it a mate after being without one for so long. He is aggressive towards his food but not his tank buddies they know to steer clear of it.

so, my tank has ich. I raised my temp to about 86 degrees, I've added some aquarium salt. Anything else I can do? If so, could would kinda break it down for me like a to-do list so that I know what to do and when to do it and how much of it to do? Thanks. Oh and how long before I should see some results?

My betta started to lie on the bottom of his tank last night about 10 pm. So, I checked the nitrite level and it was .25. So, I changed his water, added aquarium salt and API's Stress Zyme. Still no change. I noticed that he has a weird behavior. He will lie there for awhile, then swim around the tank fast for like 2 times, then get some air and rest again on the bottom. I have had him for about 2 1/2 months. He is in a 3 gallon, bio-wheel, carbon filtered tank. I clean the tank about 25% every week. Last night I cleaned it about 50%. He was eating regularly, but I didn't feed him yesterday. If I come over to his tank to look in, then he will get up and come over. Last night while cleaning the tank he was his usual self--swimming around investigating everything while I cleaned it.

Could it be chemicals from the rocks I have in the tank? I got them from PetCo? They have an iridescence on them. I use spring water in my tank and water conditioner, and aquarium salt. 83 degrees aver.

I've had a 29 gallon tropical freshwater fish tank set up for about 1.5 months. I am having trouble controlling the nitrite level. It is dangerously high and I've lost several fish probably due to this issue. I was adding cycle to the water which is supposed to help but hasn't. Until now the ammonia level was high as well but that seems to be under control according to my recent water tests.

I have 4 Swordtails,4 guppys, 1 Albino Plecostomus, 1 Frog, and 2 Dwarf Gourami's in a 55 gallon tank. I would like to know if you think that if I got a Ram cichlid it would be happy, Would you recommend only getting one Ram or more?. I dont know if this helps but all my fish are male, will they attack the Cichlid?
Also please give some suggestions of some middle-level swimming fish that are very colorfull and sold at the local pet store.
Thanks

I had a salamander type pet once. It was called an Ocilotto ( I haven't spelled this right) It was about 5-7 inches long, is white, and it had feathery looking fins that were kind of pinkish in color, these fins came out of the side of its head (like a fish has gills, in that area.) It lived in and out of water. My question is" has anyone the correct spelling of the name, are there any websites that have photos and info on them. Maybe if I could figure out the spelling, I can find these sites myself.
Thanks for any info.

What types of fish are they compatible with how long do they get, what do they eat, and what type of water do they like? If you can think of anything else that I didn;t ask, please let me know.

I'd like to get a 20 gallon tank and a divider and devote 10 gallons to certain fish and the other 10 gallons to the other fish. Basically fish that don't get along with other fish, but ones that I can put in the same tank with a divider without any problems... Something like a betta on one side and some gouramis on the other. Got any ideas on how I can start this little project? What would you do? Do dividers really work? I love reading step by step ideas! Thanks to all that answer.

I have tried once a week and it is just become ammonia free on Sunday after I thought it finally completed the cycle. So, now, I measured it and the ammonia is rising again. I was thinking of doing a water change in a few minutes because my fish has been sitting on the bottom all night.

I have a 55 gallon reef aquarium with some soft corals and a number of fish.
My problem is that the plexiglass covering quickly gets coated with fog, and eventually a salt crust. The result is that a lot of light is being absorbed and scattered rather than penetrating into the tank.
Please offer suggestions on a better hood setup that will:
1- not quickly fog up
2- allow good light penetration
3- not allow my expensive fish to jump to their deaths
