I have 4 Swordtails,4 guppys, 1 Albino Plecostomus, 1 Frog, and 2 Dwarf Gourami's in a 55 gallon tank. I would like to know if you think that if I got a Ram cichlid it would be happy, Would you recommend only getting one Ram or more?. I dont know if this helps but all my fish are male, will they attack the Cichlid?
Also please give some suggestions of some middle-level swimming fish that are very colorfull and sold at the local pet store.
Thanks

So far so good. Your tank certainly has room for some more fish. Rams are small 2.5in cichlids that are pretty peaceful for cichlids and have more bark than bite. It is best though to get at least 2 of these guys. The males are more colorful.

Yoyo Loaches are a very fun mid-dwelling fish, but they kind of tend to swim wherever they want. They are small (4 inches) but very energetic. Don't confuse them with Clown Loaches (a foot long) though, that would be a bad mistake to make... Yoyos prefer small groups and in your tank, 5 would probably be a good number. Good luck!

1 ram would be fine.

For another fish, try looking at congo tetras. Long fins, peaceful, schooling, nice to look at. Congos are truely center pieces for tanks of your size.

well a cichlid are more aggressive fish, they tend to try to dominate the entire tank, so if you do try to get a smaller one. so by the time its ready to grow in to an adult it will already have its pecking order place so it wont kill your other fish....
