I'm going to suggest you do yourself and your fish a BIG favor and get a small aquarium instead of a bowl. Just a little 2-2.5 gallon tank with a filter. This will allow you to decorate it better, keep a few shrimp or a snail with your betta and a few other cool options, but mostly, it will provide a nice healthy stable home for your betta. Instead of changing all of the water every 2-3 days like you need to do in a bowl, you can change about 1/4 of the water once a week and your fish is still far better off than in that bowl. Yes, it costs more, but over time it really costs less. A betta in a tank will average about 5 years, in a bowl, less than 2. That's how much better off your fish will be, you will have given him a full life instead of cutting it short and you will save money on replacing dead fish all the time. A small tank kit with every thing you need except the fish should be between $20-25 in the large chain pet stores.
Give it some thought, you will be very glad you did.

Get rid of the bowl. Go out and buy and 1 1/2 to 2 gallon tank and then buy some gravel. You also need to get a small heater, and a small filter. The type of filter I got was a Red Sea nano filter. It works great and is practically silent. You need to get HBH Betta Bites for food. A small apple snail would also be a good idea because it will help clean the tank. You also need water conditoner, water test kits, and a small decoration. When it is all put together it will look very pretty. Just dont forget to cycle the tank before getting the fish.

Betta fish are really easy to take care. I have mine in a regular bowl. I don't use gravel but little glass pebbles. Don't get fake plants. If you don't have a filter you can buy a liquid form of cleaning supply. After adding new water add a few drops off the stuff making the water safe for your fish you can easily find it in any pet store.

Betas are about the easiest fish ever. I have one and I hardly do anything. Just clean the water about once a month and add more in between when it looks a little lower. Other than that you give them a little food a couple times a day, no more than they will eat in a few minutes and they are good. I feed my fish in the morning before I leave and at night when I get home and when I can mid day and I have had him for a long time.

I suggest getting a 5 gallon tank instead of a bowl, with decors of you choice, a heater if you live in a cold area, fish food, nets, siphon hose, water conditioner.

Listen to MM, get at least a 2 or 2.5 gallon tank with filter and heater, your fish is going to be much happier and healthier, and you're going to enjoy it more as well
Hope that helps
