We recently purchased a new puppy for christmas. Now, I know puppies bark and chew and all that fun stuff, but I just want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong. We are crate training him at night and I'll play w him until he gets tired and falls asleep, at which point I put him in his crate. He's fine at this point but will usually wake up within 3-4 hours and start crying. I'll let him out then to go potty outside (which he does) and then give him a treat and put him back in his crate. At this point he'll cry for up to 45 mins - 1 hour. Is there something else I should be doing? He has a toy in there, and a tied up shirt for scent, and he gets a treat for going back in. So my questions is, does that routine sound correct? Is there something I can do when he cries for so long? (I've heard yell "no bark" or "gently hit" the cage?) I don't expect him to be perfect yet, but an hour of straight crying does seem a bit much?? Anyone? Thank you!

Well our friend gave us this wonderful little pup that was only 1 week old so we bottle fed him for 5 more weeks by then we love the little booger! Anyways a cop came to our house and said the dog was stolen and they took him away! Later we found out the cop kept him for himself and never returned it to his REAL owner! Is that legal?

I don't want to put him through pain. But I've heard there can be reprecussions if we don't get his tail cropped for instance; him breaking it. I'd love to hear opinions as to why/why not to crop his tail.

I have a whippet puppy who has become really really clingy.
She follows me from room to room, even when i think she is fast asleep. She even learned to climb the stairs (but can't get down) to follow me to the bathroom. When i shut her out of a room that i am in she digs at the carpet and whines like mad.
She whines when i go out of sight. She loves her food and will even leave that to see where i am. I've got to the stage where i have stay and watch her eat.
I've bought her numerous toys and a kong to try and passify her. She's getting worse.

Banned dogs - does the government have to 'nanny' people into deciding what dogs are appropiate for us to keep or do people (as in owners) have to take some responsability in the choices they make. I keep 3 German Shepherds and take responsability for their actions, behaviour and upkeep. I don't think it is rocket science or hard to do. However repeatedly on the news and in the media we see instances of young children being attacked in the home or people being attacked on the street...What is the solution to this problem?

I have two pit bulls pic attached. But, it seems like everytime I tell someone that I have pitbulls they start asking things like "Aren't you afraid for your kids" My dogs are great with humans they just tend to become territorial when other dogs are around. They even sleep with our cat. Isn't it usually the owners who make the dogs behave bad?

My dog hasn't been acting right...scratching...losing hair on ears, tails, and nose....thought it was mange...still could be...going to doctor monday....My dog pooped and I saw blood but only in small amount...then I saw some kind of red wrapper in the stool as well...I threw it away...She pooped again and I looked again...small sign of blood again but not as much as before but this time I noticed what looked to be like a tape worm. Can I get this too?...and are there any other worms that look like a tape worm..its got that "segment" look about it...I saved it to take it to the vet monday...will my dog be ok till then? I gave her a small pinch of Garlic powder in her food and I'm giving her Ice chips to keep her hydrated
