when i got him from the spca yesterday they told me its just the breed and its normal because his borther had the same thing but ive been looking and looking online and cant find anything that supports that its normal and just the breed is this something i should be concerned about. its not a massive amount of discharge but enough to ask

Well, first off, me personally would take this pup to our vet.
Any time we adopt we always take them to our vet before we sign the final adoption papers. We tell them that we are taking the animal to the vet first and then will make a decision.
Some adoption agency will tell you just about anything to get you to adopt their animals.
Read the small print on your papers to see if there is anything about diseases or a warranty on them if something should arise with in 48hrs.
Take them to your vet. Let them see what is wrong.
It may be nothing, or it could be something.
Better safe than sorry.

haha don'y worry the same thing happend to me. that is normal for a dog. like how you wake up every morning and there is "sand or eye boogers" in your eyes, dogs get the red tear spots. Just use a warm/moist towel and wipe it off.
