call the vet and explain the situation, maybe they will be willing to work with you for the dogs sake

?? What pound charged you $300 to retrieve a dog?? 8 days is usually a less than $100 charge in most shelters... anyway, glad you got him out and most state run facilities or even private run ones will have fund set aside for their therapy dogs - or whoever owns the therapy dog will pay for the dog's care. Regardless of him being a therapy dog there has to be someone designated as the responsible adult for the dog so they should be able to take responsibility for the treatment and hopefully he will have been medically complete anyway so won't be that ill. Like one poster said, the vets will usually work with you on this if they are aware that someone will take responsibility for the costs. Any shelter charging that much should have given him medical attention already anyway. Good luck.

Well, from the first post, I was thinking some things about you, but in light of the clarification, I take them back...

Again, he really needs a vet, and since the illness is due to negligence of another staff member (IMHO), Boss "should" cover the expense when he gets back-but that's just me..

Since the dog lives in that environment, I urgently suggest that you to get him microchipped. Both my dogs are chipped with HomeAgain.

I'm just guessing, but I think that the enormous cost you paid to get him out was connected to the time spent at the shelter. Was it?. That many days is a long time for a shelter, most don't keep that long. A microchipped dog gets home faster. He shows up at the shelter, they scan him and call the owner.

If you have a good and understanding vet they may be willing to work out a payment plan with you. You may also want to ask if anyone would be willing to make a donation on the behalf of your dog-you'd be surprised what a few dollars from people can add up too in a hurry and how much people are willing to open their hearts and wallets for an animal. Good luck:>)

I know it's Sunday and you might have a hard time finding a vet right now. But you might be able to find one that will come in and let you make payments.
again lol
