Depending upon in what jurisdiction the incidents occured, the dog is usually taken into custody and quaranteened and then a magistrate/judge decides, after hearing the information about the incidents, what the fate of the dog (and the culpability of its owners are) in accordance with the laws/regulations of the area are. Usually, in most areas, it would warrant checks regarding rabies and then the dog would be humanely euthanized and the owners would/could be held criminally and/or civily accountable for the situation/damages.

Usually it is put down. However, many states have what is called a "one bite rule," which means that the dog may get a second chance if he has never done this before.

The dog will probably be quarantined, then humanely euthanized and various charges would be brought against the owner of the dog, holding the owners financially responsible for damages, medical bills, stress, etc., etc.

It will be tested for diseases and put down, not necessarily in that order.
