Roxy will be 2 on X-Mas eve and ever since she got pregnant earlier this year, she constantly bites at the backs of her hind legs, scratches her sides, and demands both my boyfriend and I to scratch her on her back (right under where her tail curls over her back. I had my vet check her out during our visit for her ultrasound and he said it wasn't fleas or mange. I once had a dog with mange years ago and I am sure this is not what's going on with Roxy. She has not lost any hair nor is her skin bleeding which makes me think it may be some sort of allergy. I bath her once a week with a flea/tick shampoo and I've never seen any fleas or ticks on her body or in the bath water. I have also bought 2 different sprays to help relieve itchy dry skin. One gives her no relief. It has aloe and lanonin. The other seems to give her some temporary relief and it contains tea tree oil. I spray her after her bath and also several times a day. I am thinking of trying benadryl. HELP PLEASE!

I know some ppl that won't get a male dog ever. they claim they just feel more connected to females. while others say the same of male dogs.

i myself have always gravitated towards male dogs..though i have had dogs of both sexes; my closest bonds have been w/male dogs.

some would point out that males are more protective or loyal. some would point out that females are more nurturing or calm.
which sex of dog do you prefer and why?

my little chihuahua mix has run into a corner in our kitchen. i am not sure how but she managed to fracture her skull and has loose knee joints. i have tried to make her as comfortable as possible but i feel so sorry for her with her e-collar on & still limping as she is still in pain. the doctor has given me some pain killers but i can only give it to her tomorrow and she is on strict bed rest. no walks and no food tonight. first thing tomorrow.
has anyone else have this situation before? how can you make a dog more comfortable in a situation like this?
thanks

My wife and I have a black lab (yes, its an "inside dog") and she is convinced that having a dog will bring down the value of the house and make it harder to sell. The house is only 2 years old and we are the original owners of it and it is in great shape aside from some slight repainting that needs to be done. The house doesn't smell "like a dog", but obviously having the lab created more wear on the carpet and we have to vacuum alot but aside from that, is it that big of a deal? My wife wants to give the dog away or get rid of him until we sell the house but I am trying to convince her that its not necessary (and I can't bear to be without my pooch). So if you own a dog and sold your house or if you are a real estate agent (or anybody that has some suggestions) and have some insite, please help!!!

He takes Lasix and Digoxin daily. He frequently gasps for breath especially when he comes up the steps. When he is lying on the ground you can see the intensity of his breathing. He has severe smelly ear problems and is slightly blind. There are many many times when he messes in the house. I want to take him to the vet but my husband makes me feel bad. Saying that I just want to put him to sleep. Am I being horrible or is the dog suffering and would this be better for him.

Is getting so expensive, heating bills on the rise, food costs sky rocketing and all the fires, hurricanes etc. Do you think we will see more questions about people not being able to afford vet care for their dogs? Do you keep an account "just in case" there is an emergency for your dog?

Sometimes he like... sits, but pulls himself - basically dragging his butt on the carpet.
He chews on his paws to the point it sounds really disturbing, and he has coughs or something like that... like clearing his throat.
Also, he's really itchy. e.e;

Doctor, fleas, or serious thing?

A few weeks ago I was at the dog park and a little dog was there running around with a muzzle. Apparently, the owner was a guy with a couple youngish kids. When they were getting ready to leave, somehow one of the kids took off the dog's muzzle. I overheard the dad say something like "What'd you do that for? He can kill another dog." Now, likely he was exaggerating, but still...

In one way, I look at it and say that the dog park can be great for unsociable dogs to learn appropriate dog social skills. I totally sympathize with these people if this is what they're attempting. On the other hand... if that dog really is dangerous... is it worth the risk?

OK, so some stupid kid took off his dog's muzzle. But not all dogs have stupid kids attached to them. If the muzzle is secure, do you think it's that bad?

Would you leave the dog park if a muzzled dog showed up?

If you had a dog you were rehabilitating, would you ever take him to the park muzzled to develop his socialization skills?

I will eventually get a dog from the pound. I don't know when yet. But the shelter workers said if I adopt a dog I also have to buy a bag of Science Diet and keep her on it. Do I have to keep her on it for life or can I switch after a while? Will they come and take my dog away if they find out I am not feeding it Science Diet?

I am not against people who feed Science Diet. I would just rather feed something else.

So, I think I have figured out how to prevent poor breeding and poor dog ownership with aggressive breeds. What do you guys think of the law holding the owner criminally responsible for their pets behavior? Let me know your thoughts of that.

Ok so.. Sophie is pregnant, and has about 2 weeks left, she's stopped eating, as i have said before, we adopted her and didnt know she was pregnant before get got her, we live in a small northern town in canada and are hours away from a vet, so we havent gotten her checked.
My bf's fam had a dog that was bred, so he knows a thing or two about dog pregnancy although im not too sure about this not eating bit that she's got going on.
As of two days ago she hasnt been taking water as much as the norm. I've been trying to get her to drink milk also, but she tastes it then leaves it alone (same thing she does with her food).
I afraid that she was going to starve to death. So i tried to feed her chicken noodle soup. She tasted the soup and walked away but kept walking back and forth in front of it, i noticed this and put some of it in my hand, n she ate straight from it, should i keep feeding her this way until the pups come or just leave her w the dog food?

My dog is almost 2 years old and whenever people come to my house she barks and growls and shies away(even if they come over all the time) i dont mind if she shies away, thats understandable but i wish i could stop the growling and barking! She has a blind eye that shes had ever since she was a newborn so it normally doesnt bother her i try to calm her down and sometimes it works but sometimes it doesnt does anyone know what i can do??Shes very smart and cathes on to thing like that but this has been going on for a year now and i cant figure it out. she really spazzes out if the people are loud and this could be a problem cause were having a sleepover next month and i dont want her to have to sleep outside!
