- Excessive water consumption
- Urinating only small amounts at a time
- Urinating frequently and in multiple spots
- Inability to hold urine the normal amount of time/apparent incontinence
- Bloody urine (though an infection must either involve a special organism, a bladder stone, a bladder tumor, or be particularly severe to make urine red to the naked eye)
If your dog has any of these signs or even if he doesn't and you are concerned about him, take him to the vet.

A urinary tract infection isn't something you should second guess, especially if you suspect as much. Take him to the vet.

You need to take the dog to the vet. they look at the urine under a microscope to check for signs of pus.

if you see blood in the urine
if he is straining to pee
pees right in front of you
And if he is neutered then it can also look like he is marking territory
best bet is to have the vet rule it out

If you have any inkling of an idea that he may, take him to a vet. This is dangerous.
