my little chihuahua mix has run into a corner in our kitchen. i am not sure how but she managed to fracture her skull and has loose knee joints. i have tried to make her as comfortable as possible but i feel so sorry for her with her e-collar on & still limping as she is still in pain. the doctor has given me some pain killers but i can only give it to her tomorrow and she is on strict bed rest. no walks and no food tonight. first thing tomorrow.
has anyone else have this situation before? how can you make a dog more comfortable in a situation like this?
thanks

it really hurts me to hear that someone thinks i am abusing my dog or someone has. i don't have kids. i have other dogs but no kids and my spouse wouldn't do that!! why would he? all my dogs are healthy, maybe a bit spoilt but not abused! she ran into the corner of the cupboard and that's the truth!
her knee joints r lose because of the force of impact she had.

well the vet says she has a fractured skull and we should treat it like that. it could be that the plates haven't fused yet but for now we should treat it as a fractured skull.
well i wasn't there. i was at work but i would NEVER EVER believe my fiance could do that. i know it sounds like it could never happen but it did. so just pls let me know what i can do to help her. doc says no food till tomorrow morning.

Don't you ppl have any compassion for this situation?
The pup may have been excited playing with the other dogs, and yes!, they can hit a wall hard enough to do major damage to other parts of the body.

Do you know how to make a baby sling from a dish towel or light-weight towel long enough to go over your head so the pup will lie next to your belly between breasts & belly button?
That will calm her because she can hear the beating of your heart.
She's scared & hurting and just wants to be by mommy. Give her a favorite soft toy in the sling with her. Keep her warm and she'll most likely sleep alot in that position.
Just keep her warm.

Good luck with your baby.

You may need to find another vet,.
Chihuahuas always have an open fontonel (not sure of spelling) and they don't close. Unfortunately some vets don't know this.
I would definately get a second opinion.
I have several chihuahuas and have been involved in finding homes for several chi mixes and almost all have the opne spot on top of the head which is hte characteristic of a chi.
As far as the e-collar it's just time for them to get use to it.
Chihuahuas are also known for Patella problems are you sure this was caused by the accident??
I'm also wondering why is she wearing an e-collar ??
Also not to be mean but chis are the biggest babies and they often don't tolerate pain. They are also very smart and will quickly teach you what they want ( they will act worse to get teh extra attension or extra treats ( don't fall for there acts))
I wish you luck and it's just time and patience.
If you would like anymore help you can email me.

give her something good to chew on... give her her pain meds.. the firs 24 48 hours is the worst..

As far as the rest,, the luxating patellas,, Honesly she was proably born with them,, a common problem in this breed,, does she actually have a skull fracture? or a opening in her skull? (another common breed problem) did she have surgery on the knee? is that what the e-collar is for? perhaps there was some miss understanding in the post,,???

To have both a skull fracture,, VERY hard to do BTW in dogs,, and also tear the ligiments in her knees.. does indicate MORE force than she would have been able to generate on her own.. more like a Fall, from a height, blunt force trauma..perhaps what you saw,, running into the corner was her after her injury?
So somthing is up,, I know you care for your pet,, but somthing happend.. accedental or not.. but dogs cannot do that combination of injuries on their own.. Perhaps time to ask some family memebers? or perhaps she jumpped up on somthing on her own?
good luck,, I hope she feels well soon

It's really hard for a dog to fracture it's skull. Impossible, really, without it being attacked or hit by a car. Same with the loose knee joints. keep your kids away from the dog and anything else that they could break. This sure sounds like a dog abused by children, or an abusive spouse. Keep the dog on your lap as much as possible on a pillow or towel or folded up blanket that can be set down with the dog on it without bending it around a lot. Next time, protect it better or find it a safe home.

Your chi must've been very excited and energetic to hurt herself "full force" like that!
No, haven't had that happened before, but did have pets recuperating from injuries where they were in pain and suppose to have restricted movement.

I too, rack brains out trying to think of a way for them to be still and comfortable without movement.

Try what I did, get a big beef bone with lots of meat on it from the meat market or butcher.
My convalecsing dog would be occupied most of day lying there chewing it.
Hope it helps.

for my section, you're 0.5 precise. the way they positioned it, it feels like the boy fractured his very own cranium after being hit. Your different version, "Boy fractures cranium on wall," nevertheless provides the effect that the boy did it to himself. despite if, that version is right interior the way that that's reported. puzzled? ok. attempt this,"Boy suffers fractured cranium whilst hit..." think of roughly it. Does his cranium crack whilst the ball hits him? Or after the ball hits him? And if this is after, then how long after it hits does the cranium fracture? in case you truly desire to apply the awareness 'after', attempt this, "Boy's head is fractured after being hit...." by employing the awareness 'is', you're asserting this is the way it at the instant is after being hit. i'm hoping you settle with me. Have a intense-high quality day and beware for flying balls.
