My dog is 4 years old. My sister brought her 2 dogs over for me to babysit for 2 days (1 is a puppy, and the other is old). I set out their food (3 different kinds). I gave my dog his food first, and then the other 2 dogs their food (All away from eachother). My dog ate 1/2 of his, and then went for the puppy's food. I told him to stop and went over to nudge him out of the food and he bit me. He bit me pretty hard on the forearm and then ate another bite and ran away. I didn't hit him because I was too concerned about my arm. (It really hurt!). This is the second time he has bitten me. He knows it was wrong and he's hiding. After about 10 minutes I called him over and scolded him. His tail is down and he knows he's in trouble. My question is......Should I be concerned about this? Should I keep him outside away from the other 2 dogs? How should I have handled this?

We have a 6 month old chocolate lab named Jackson, and he's so adorable, but hes a little wild man. The problem is he ALWAYS grabs stuff and chew it up. He even chewed up this really expensive figurine my mom got from her brother when he when to Italy.

My moms a half a second away from selling him, but I really don't want her to. Is there anyway I can make him stop grabbing things he's not supposed to?

I read so many answers in here that state that mixed breeds are healthier, because they don't have the health problems pure breds do. But how can that really be true? Wouldn't they have more, since they are taking on two different breeds (at least) genetics which would include chances at all the defects for both breeds?

You also hear that they will always get the "best" traits? But since genetics is basically a crap shoot, wouldn't the pups have an equal chance at getting all of the worst traits?

Can someone please explain the logic?

I have a 10 month old part lab/golden retriever. I also have an 8 year old lab who will eat anything. I ran into a good sale on bologna and I give them each a piece or two as a treat. My son questioned whether this is ok for a 10 month old dog so...I am asking all of you. Thanks!

Have you ever had a disagreement with a adopter where they may have hurt your feelings or egos, so you didn't let them adopt the animal they want? Please be honest, just asking from a personal experience.

I know this puppy was too young to be taken from the litter but the breeder insisted and was letting the litter mates go at the same time as well. I know of people who have her dogs (GSD) and they haven't had any long term problems with their dogs so I'm hoping for the best. I just don't know if the rules for an 8week old puppy apply to a 5 week old. I don't want to traumatize her by having her cry while in the crate.
I would also like to know if anyone can tell me the best way to socialize this puppy since she should really be with her litter mates. She will be a big dog and is already showing signs of being aggressive. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Whenever I give my Beagle her favorite toy, she immediately gets defensive. Anybody who walks near the dog is growled at. Petting her is putting yourself up at risk for a dog bite. Just a day ago, I was petting her on the head when out of the blue, she attacked me ferociously. I ended up with a decent sized bruise and two small holes on the top of my hand. I feel as if I'd have to give the dog away if she continues to keep this up. What can I do to stop her anger!

my dog was spayed about 2 days ago and she was hurting quite a bit the day after, but then that stopped. now she wont stop crying. she is being really active, running around jumping, so i dont think she is in pain. every time she goes near one of her squeeky toys she starts crying more and then she wouldnt go to bed without it, and started crying when she was in bed. she always goes to bed easily so i'm sure something is up. she could have a phobia?

My mom adopted a beagle 2 years ago from a breeder who no longer had funds or time to care for it. She has assigned the dog to my care and I'm having one hell of a time trying to train her.

Every time I walk her, she insists of going her way and I have to yank her back around 70+ times during the course of a half hour walk. She also defecates in the house when it's raining outside and when she doesn't get attention. She barks at everyone that goes nearby her except little children and insists on staying nearby me when a thunderstorm comes since she doesn't like thunder. Her idea of going around a barrier is to ram through it instead of just walking around it like a smart dog would.

She's gotten a bit overweight now through training treats just to teach her to sit, lie down, and shake, but that's it. What can I do to tame her and actually teach her stuff?
