I'd like a medium sized dog that doesn't shed too much and would be good for in the house.

I recently adopted a cute 3 year old Bichon Frise/Poodle mix.

He seems relatively calm and was already housebroken (is that the term for a dog already knowing how to function in a house).

But I might be giving him too much attention. How do I make sure that I'm not?

I know all of the positives of nuetering dogs, but I want to know what are the negatives. Behaverial changes, effects of loosing hormones, etc. I just want to be well researched before I put my dog through this opperation.

I would love to go about walking my dog freely at any park in NY without having to consider seasons. There are some parks that allows us dog owners to walk our dogs in the most remote places of a park during summer, but everywhere in the cold winter months. What I would like to have is a DECENT section of a park dedicated solely for dogs; where they can run and stretch their legs to their heart's content! Is that too much to ask?????

Where I live my city requires that we license our dogs once a year. Any intact dog is $50/year, any nutered/spayed dog is $15/year.

Loads of people I know refuse to license their dogs... why is that? I asked the shelter people what was so important about licensing and they said it was used as a way to make sure people are keeping up with their animal's vaccinations AND to make sure people are not exceeding their alotted ratio of pets (we're allowed 3 cats and 2 dogs per address. The most important thing they said was that if my dogs ever got accused of biting whether it be on the street or on my property, I wouldn't have to scramble to find their rabies records because it's all on file with the city.

I guess my question is -- why wouldn't you license your pet? How often / how much is your licensing?

My dogs wear 3 id's on their collars - ID tag, License & Avid ID.

Its a mutt and is made to be very small. It is very little!!! It's only like a month and a week old. Where should it sleep??? My mother says that we should get a cardboard box and put some blankets and newspaper in there, what do you think??? Do you think I should buy it some toys, or do you think it won't be interested in toys yet. How many times should I feed it in a day? Do you think it will cry a lot in the night time? How old should it be when I start walking him? How old should he be when I start bathing him? How old should he be when I start brushing his teeth? Do you think I should buy a crate or carrier??? Fir the first 9 days it will be supervised and then it will be alone for like 2-3 hrs. one day this month it might be home alone for like 5 hrs.!!! I think I should buy a carrier, but they r really expensive at petco and pets mart (the only pet stores we have near us!) PLease answer these questions!!!

Sorry this is not a question, instead this is a very important message.. Recent i have been checking out videos about Puppy mills, and what i saw was very shocking, and heartbreaking.. By buying a cute puppy at a pet store you are supporting puppy mills.. Please go to your local shelter and pick up a cute dog or puppy there.. What is a puppy mill you ask.. well check this website out, and this video and see for your self..

My Weim is Pike, a four year old male blue. He is very sweet, very well behaved, house-trained and great with all people, children, other dogs and cats.

He has no health problems and is current on all his vaccinations.

He is not currently kennel trained.

It is impossible for me to keep him, and I want him to go to a good home. Please respond if you are interested, or know someone who is. I already know about all the rescue organizations.

Thank you!

So I might be getting a puppy from a breeder in a state pretty far away from me and it might have to be shipped on a plane. What are your views on shipping dogs? Has anyone had their dog shipped to them?

My Lhasa opso just had puppies. They are now 5 weeks old. They are doing great. What I need to know is when do I allow the mother to be outside?Because she always wants out im worried that she is not feeding them enough. Today I gave them some water and they took to it real well. I have a vet and have had many puppies. None from birth. I just want to make sure that im taking good care of them. Thank you for any advice that you can give.

Thank you all for helping me with the last question. We took the puppy to the vet this saturday and found out something heartbreaking. He had water in the brain which caused him to be blind and deaf (reason why he bumped into things and didn't respond to us.) and so he had to be euthanized. I felt sad that this had to be done because he was about to reach 2 months of age, and....at least I wanted him to have his first Christmas, but tht didn't happen. I just wish the best for the other 4 puppies, since I stayed with the spotted one.

I want to make sure that when something like this happens, I can be there for the puppy and care for them through their problems, because most people just abandon a dog with defects.

Do you have any advice for me, if I want to put forth my best efforts and go into dog breeding, preferally chihuahua and other Toy breeds?

is a playpen good to use for a whelping box. I would put bumper pads around the edges so pups feet dont get stuck, And cut a door for her to get in and out. And BEFORE anyone says I shouldnt be breeding because I dont know what I can use, I posted a question a while back, I was given this dog telling me she was spay, and 2 weeks later she started to show. I have always had spay and nuetered dogs so I dont know anything. But Im reading all about what she is going through.

before my dog was pregnant and even while pregnant my son has been kinda rough with my dog (laying on her, hugging her tightly, grabbing her roughly, and other rough kid things) and she takes it all in stride only responds by licking him needless to say shes a GREAT dog I just worry about the pups who cannot defend themselves unlike her. when I brought a kitten in the house he tried to carry it around by the neck which would kill newborn pups.
