People will answer this one differently. Shelters and rescues will spay as early as 8 weeks/2 lbs (2 months) because it helps to get homeless pets home faster and is still safe.
Most vet practices suggest waiting until 4 months, around the same time they are old enough for their rabies shots. I would opt for this answer (and I've worked at both a shelter and a vet clinic).
Especially for females, who can sometimes experience bladder issues from being spayed too soon (and because a spay surgery is a lot more invasive than a neuter for males), it is best to wait until they are about 4-5 months. This allows their immune systems a good healthy backing to promote healing afterwards.
I wouldn't opt to do it any later than 5 months, as 6 months can often be after they've had their first heat. Its prime to get the surgery in before their first heat because it then eliminates their risk for ever contracting Ovarian cancer -- a definate plus!!

My dog's vet said that dogs should not be spayed before they are 5 months old. My dog was spayed at 5 months. She did just fine during the surgery and healed quickly.

Now would be the perfect time. Ask around your neighborhood for where their animals were spayed. If you do this you should be able to find out which vet. to go to and who to stay away from. Do not go to a vet. just because they are the cheapest. You are asking for trouble if you pick a vet. based on price and not by their past history.

Now! My vet recommended spaying before the first heat cycle. This reduces the risk of the dog developing breast cancer. Yeah, who knew dogs could get breast cancer! I had my dog spayed at 5 months old.

It is healthiest for them to be spayed before their first heat cycle, so NOW would be good. Being spayed before they ever go into season greatly reduces risks of many types of cancer on down the road.

I would get it done right away. She is more then old enough. I prefer to have mine done before their first heat for the first time, and that happens as early as 6 mos or sooner.

Right now, I think you're about ready. They're ready before this time, and now is the age when it's possible to have puppies, so I'd say as soon as possible.
