I rescued a AKITA 2 days ago. he is 10 months old and has lived his whole life with a puppy farmer suffering physical and mental abuse. He has lots of scars all over his bosy from where he has been beaten, he finds it very hard to trust people. He will poo, wee, scream and shiver when approached by anyone. I know it is going to take along time for him to adapt, he doesnt eat and will just go outside for a wee or a poo, and when he does he will try and hide under ANYTHING!! Does anyone know how i can try and gain his trust in order to make some sort of progress?? Thanks for reading,

took my dog to the vet's with what we thought was a sickness bug (also diorrhea) he too had been itching/licking around his tail..the vet emptied the anal glands and gave him some antibiotics. A week later and having eaten beef (cooked) he still had diorrhea...so we took him back, another vet gave him some more antibiotics, inc penicillin and a steroid jab - this turned his #2's to black tar..after 2 days on the penicillin he stopped eating. So last Saturday we went back - told to carry on with penicillin and he had another job (so far its cost £90) we read that penicillin should not be given on an empty stomach so by Monday we stopped the tablets...he is still not eating on his own volition, he his definately lethargic, and he seems to have joint problems, which I have read could be a reaction to the antibiotics...The vet wanted to x ray him, blood tests, £200 worth, not convinced...he's just heard a dog bark and run round the house like a pup - any idea's - thanks - worried JR owner

I have a Bichon and a Havanese. Sometimes one or the other of them will have a spat of bad scratching. Once in awhile it will be both of them. We have them groomed frequently and the groomer sees no flees. I realize allergies could cause this itching. Does anyone have advice on what I can do? How can I find out what they are allergic to? Can I give them something to help?

I know there are cases where these dogs are vicious, but Pitt-Bulls aren't mean naturally, it's how they're bred and raised.

I've had Hercules, my pitt, for five years and he has never once even growled at a human being. The one and only time he ever bit anything was a rottweiler my neighbor had that jumped our fence and the rottie started it. People who beat, starve, and abuse these dogs are the reason they are labeled as dangerous, vicious, and evil. When in reality, the majority of pittbulls who are raised with loving owners who take care of them, are sweet, loving, and extremely loyal.

Some people I know have a dog. He gets really aggressive when I go anywhere near him, yet will only slightly bark if my mom goes near him. I don't understand why he feels so much aggession towards me only. We both have the same relationship with the dog.

Around September 6th we noticed her nipples were swollen, the next week they got bigger. Other than that we have not noticed other weird behaviors besides she seems to want in the house now, she never attemtped to come in before. We were watching for her to go into heat but our breeder said she shouldn't have a heat yet. She is 1 year this month. Anyone have any advice? I think I will take her to the vet to be sure.

We have a pure breed German Shepherd and he is about 2 1/2 yrs. WE have had him since he was 4 wks old. We love him and he is great with the kids (in my family the youngest is 6), but lately he has taken to growling and hiding from our 10 year old, 8 year old, and 6 year old. They haven't mistreated him at all. Sometimes it seems that he is depressed or jealous of them. Whenever we leave for a couple of hours, he wil be "mad" at us when we come back. (greeting us with ears down and slinking away) He also seems to have reacurring infections in his ears. Can anyone help? We have take him to the vet repeatedly but to no avail. PLEASE!!???

The dog had injection at the vets one week ago so all the ticks on him and what goes on him for next 2 months will die. None on him now. I have sprayed house (surface spray from shop) and vacumed all visible tick inside. Squashed all visible ticks outside but every day i kill at least 10 ticks walking on floor. help. Is there any solution apart from taking my glasses off and not seeing ticks. I am not the dogs owner he doesnt care about so i have to do something about it. Killa the rottwierler and me will be grateful for anyhelp.

for long periods of time, when I'm very busy I can't help it, but I know he is very bored and I feel guilty, I have to leave the house, if I give him to my mom, I think he'll really miss me, how difficult is it for pups to get used to a new owner, (I'll miss him dearly, but schedule won't allow me to keep him) I'll cry, but no choice

My dog will push her way through my small children to escape or sneek away when I'm not looking. She always comes back if I can't find her, but she's been getting into trouble everyonce in awhile. I do tie her up, but she has to come inside too.

The other night, I noticed something was not right with my dog. Whenever she moved a certain way, she would yelp. And when she went to jump on anything, she would cry. I took her to the vet yesterday, and he said he thinks its something in her back and gave us some anti inflamitories. But today she has been getting much worse. sometimes she just lays down and cries. Am I overreacting?Should I wait to see if the medicine will kick in? Or is this possibly something worse than what we thought it was and I need to take her back to the vet?

Every time I come over to my sisters house her puppy gets the hiccups. He is a pitbull/dalmation mix. The only reason I could think of is that I have a cat, and maybe he smells the cat, and has a reaction. Is there a reason for this?

I posted a question yesterday about this but I only got one answer so I'm going to repost it in a shorter story.. My one year old chihuahua and my 6mo old male chihuahua were found "tied up" yesterday. I have talked to my veterinarian about their age and I know they are too young, but this was NOT on purpose.. What I want to know is what the chances are she's pregnant (she is in heat) and any advice I can get.. I have researched breeding for future reference, but now I may be forced to learn a lot quicker than I had planned.. any advice please.
