Any dog can be aggressive. It doesn't matter the breed. A tiny dog can be or a large dog. There are no bad dogs only bad dog owners. Usually large dogs intimidate you more when they are barking at you when you're walking down the street, huh?

Don't let anyone fool you!! There are dogs that can have a tendency towards aggression if they aren't socialized early enough, but for the most part ANY dog can and WILL become aggressive if it isn't handeled correctly. The biggest problem that people have is not doing enough research before GETTING a dog. go to the bookstore or library and READ!! just pick up any dog encyclopedia or breed book and they will almost all tell you what that particular breeds needs are. Even so, in each breed, and even each litter of pups, you will have confident, nervous, shy, or aggressive pups. you have to pay attention and know what to look for. If you decide to adopt a dog from a shelter, find out if the shelter will allow you to see the dog interact with another dog, and also bring yours or someone elses child with you to the shelter. Some dogs are VERY unfriendly to children because they were teased or tormented by them and so they bit them and thats how they ended up there in the first place. But you wont know unless you bring a child with you to walk in front of the kennels with you. You'd be suprised how many seemingly sweet dogs turn into Kujo when a child walks in front of the kennel door. Again, if you are a quiet person, choose a low activity dog. Herding dogs and terriers (including pit bulls) , dalmations and boxers, all of these dogs need LOTS of exercise and activities to keep their minds sharp and alert and to keep them from getting into truble. Larger dogs tend to be more docile, and placid, but again, spend time with the liter, or dog to be sure. If you are an active person, then don't get a lethargic dog, you'll be more unhappy then he will. And remember ANY dog CAN bite, but it doesn't mean that they WILL bite, just because of their breed. Also, some breeds need a heavier hand than others. keep that in mind also.

That question isn't specific enough to give a good answer -- sorry. If you mean the breed that is statistically most apt to bite, cocker spaniels are one of the top ten breeds.

If you mean the dog that can do the most damage, that would be dogs like Rottweilers, pit bulls, akitas, and other breeds that have strong jaws and exert a very high PSI on whatever they're biting. Dogs like Scotties that were bred to be "varmint dogs" also have strong jaws and can do a lot of damage.

But IMHO, the most aggressive dog "breed" is the one that has been poorly trained, badly-socialized, and allowed to do whatever it wants. Seen in that light, Chihuahuas can be just as aggressive as German shepherds -- if not more so.

A smaller dog may not do as much damage, but if their owners think that their aggressive behavior is "cute," then they're allowed to get away with things that would brand a larger dog as "vicious" and "dangerous."

I have a Rottweiler that lets out the meanest bark in the world...from her bed. Once my friend told her to be quiet and she started to cry. If you want a guaranteed aggresive dog...you need to find one that has been trained, or train one to be so.

The only time she was ever aggressive was with this dog the neighbor has that is really small and annoying. It would taunt my dog, bark at her...try and nip her and run when she was on a chain...just nasty stuff. One day the dog came over and she picked it up and almost swallowed half of her. She just held her there for a second in her mouth and dropped her...as if to say, "cut it out or I will kill you." The dog hasn't come near her since, lol.

Two that people usually don't think of are dalmatians and a cross between a German shepherd and a timber wolf. Yes, people breed them. I've met both kinds of dogs and didn't have a bit of trouble.

Pittbulls, bulldogs, dobermanns, rottweilers and german shepherds in this order. But if trained well in a good family the dog isn't usually aggressive.
