Some people I know have a dog. He gets really aggressive when I go anywhere near him, yet will only slightly bark if my mom goes near him. I don't understand why he feels so much aggession towards me only. We both have the same relationship with the dog.

Same thing happens to my uncle. He is the nicest guy, never so much as raises his voice (much less his hand) to his kids, co-workers, wife, neighbors. Generally, he's a gentle, kind person.
Dogs HATE him.
No rhyme or reason, they just out and out hate him. I think you have the same problem.
When we were kids, we didn't believe him when he told us that was why he wouldn't get my cousins a dog. One day we brought over a neighbor's dog and didn't tell anyone, just let it go in the house where he was, I never saw a dog go from nice and playful to mean and nasty so fast. It was a nice dog too.
Man, we were in so much trouble, let me tell you! He didn't get mad though, he thought it was funny (see, my uncle's nice) it was our moms that whacked our bums.

Sometimes dogs will be trained to be aggressive towards certain types of people (race, gender, whatever) and that could be it. It could also be that the dog in question has had a bad experience with someone and you remind the dog of the person who hurt them.

Sometimes a dogs anger can be gender-specific. I don't know why, but I have known dogs that liked women but hated men, and vice versa. Maybe a bad experience in the past?

Dogs are better judges of people than us.
There is a reason the dog doesn't trust you & he also feels your fear.
