When you take your dog for a walk, do you bring a pooper scooper or plastic baggie with you, or do you just let him do his business as nature intended (in people's yards).

I read in a book that the Golden Retriever was good with children. I read in the same book that the Labrador Retriever was good with children but needed special exercise needs. In another book it said
this. For the Golden Retriever the Advantages were good gundog, gentle with children, even-tempered. The Disadvantages were no drawback known. For the Lab. Advantages Even-tempered, good
gundog, good family pet, good with children. Disadvantages were No drawbacks known. I'm not sure which is better for the family. Take a look. Single mom with two teenage kids, 1 small dog, 2 tabby cats. Watchdog ability. PLEASE HELP! They are both cute. We want to know which is the better deal. CUTENESS DOES NOT COUNT! We like the Golden a little better. If anyone knows any place where they breed the Golden Retriever with the
Labrador Retriever, Please, please, please tell me.

We recently got 2 3-month old siberian husky puppies, bro and sis, and are in the process of crate training. House breaking is going ok, maybe about an accident a day between the 2 of them. They make it overnight in the crate without having to go potty, but sometimes we check on them and let them out quickly anyway.

Problem is that the male sometimes goes potty in his crate during the day. We take them out several times before they go into the crates for any period of time, 2hrs, 4hrs, and he still goes. Yet some days he makes it 6hrs no problem. Can he really not hold it or is it some sort of behavioral thing? It makes going home frustrating knowing that we have to clean him up because he peed and then stepped in it. The female holds it in her crate just fine. Oh, and he has a smaller crate than his sister.

Any Suggestions or ideas? We have had them for almost 3 weeks.

Recently I just got my first dog and she is a puppy (8 months old). She is a {part Doberman & Pit Bull}, mostly Doberman. I am asking any dog owner for advice and tips for anything. (potty training, behavior, feeding, etc).

I have one problem. When I am not home she tends to get on the furniture and sit there. I know she knows better because when I am home she doesn't do this. What can I do to stop it? Also she knows to go use the bathroom downstairs. I set out newspaper and sometimes she'll use the paper and other times she wont. What can I do to get her to use the bathroom on the paper?

My puppy, Gaby, truly has it in for Pugs, so to speak. I acquired Gaby from a deplorable animal shelter nearly two months ago. Gaby is a handsome 40 lb. tricolor (black, tan and white) mutt. Her most dominant characteristics in behavior and demeanor are that of a Terrier mix. In fact, I would venture to say that Gaby is a Jack Russell Terrier/Pit Bull mix. Gaby is circa 9 to 11 months-old. She has already been spade, and she is rather obedient, for the most part. Gaby is maturing into a docile, fun-loving pup with an impressive amount of energy (i.e. she visits the dog run twice daily). Lately, however, Gaby has had multiple altercations with Pugs. Today, for example, Gaby got disturbingly aggressive with a 10-15 lb. Pug in a local dog run. Is it possible that Gaby systematically dislikes a particular breed of canines? Has anyone ever heard of such a thing or noticed similar behavior with their own pet? How do i address this issue of anti-Pug Aggression?

Ok I got a puppy a month ago, she is three months now. The shelter told me she is part German Shepherd. My vet says she thinks she is going to end up around 25 lbs. (I know not German Shepherd like) ANYHOW, Does anyone know a site that helps you determine what mix your dog is?

Our family is considering getting a dog that we would keep in our fully fenced back yard with a dog house. We want it to be a watch dog at night, that doesn't bark at every little movement, and a dog that will be a great friend to the kids during the day. Hopefully one that will be easy to train to not crap all over the whole backyard, but to do his duty in a designated spot. :) As far as weather goes, we live in Idaho and so we do experience a few months of winter, as well as some fairly hot days in the summer.

I'm currently using the 'choke chain' collar to train my puppy not to pull and it's been successful to an extent, but i'm not too comfortable with it, and i hate to see it tighten around her neck. which other collars/harnesses can you recommend? any personal experience stories would be great!

We are looking at buying a puppy from some friends who had an oops breeding of their pure-bred American Bull Dogs. Puppies are being bottle fed and have been since day 2. Mom got an infection and was put down when puppies were 9 days old. They are all together but no mom. Anyone who has had litters with & without mom...any advice? We have been over to feed them a few times and are going back at week 3 but have some concerns with them not learning all those little dominance/respect, etc. things that they get from mom before going to new homes at 8 weeks. Just not sure if those things they get from mom are so crutial that they will end up not being the best dogs later. Any assistance would be appreciated.

TIA!!!

When we first got our dog he was in a crate inside our house, however I didn't feel good about leaving him in there for 8 hours while we were at work. I would come home for lunch and walk him but he always peed and then I had to clean that up. We have an average sized backyard that has high fences and he seems to do fine out there so far. Our vet, however told us he should be kept inside. What do you think?

poor thing had diareha last night and soiled his crate. could it have been the awful smell made him rub his nose on the bedding till it bled? I put a dab of neosporin on it to aid healing. The spot is on top were the fur meets the black of his nose. will it always be pink? it is about the size of half a dime. There was a trace of blood on his bedding. what's your opinion? (he is 1/2 yellow lab & 1/2 G. shepard)
