Not to sound like a Know-it-all but there is a very natural way of dealing with fleas. First your home and yard needs to be decontaminated. The best method for doing that is a little bug called a nematode. They are available in powered form in 16 oz plastic bottles. You know the old saying "Every dog has its fleas and each flea has his flea", well the nematodes are the fleas flea. They bore into the flea and lay their eggs literally destroying the ability of the flea to lay eggs killing the flea at the same time.

Take the powder and lightly sprinkle it on the your carpeting, it will not hurt the carpet, then lightly spray your carpet with a fine mist of water. Don't walk on the carpet yourself until it is dry. It is ok to let the dogs walk on it. Then do the same to your whole yard. It will be about a week but the fleas will be gone.

The nematodes will become dormat when there is no food but when there is food they multiply profusely, then will go dormat again.

The dog needs to be fully defleaed at the same time. The best method I have found to do that naturally, is to use a combination of Avon Skin-So-Soft (original formula not the scented stuff). After having used regular mild shampoo to clean the dog, bathe your dog again using the SSS, putting a full 16 oz bottle in the bath tub full of warm water. Just soak your dog very throughly. Do Not dry your dog off. Take it straight outside and let him dry off naturally. Of course don't let him role in the dirt etc. This will take about an hour to do but is the best overall method.

The SSS will stay on his coat and act as a conditioner as well as be a deterant to the fleas. The SSS is a natural mineral oil and will help with your dogs skin irratation from the flea bits and will kill any left over fleas and eggs from the shampoo cleaning.

Best wishes in your project. Fleas are a big problem everywhere I have ever lived and this was the best way to get rid of them

Get Capstar tablets from your vet, this will kill all live fleas within a few hours. Then you should put Frontline Plus or Andvantix on you her. These will kill the eggs and adults for a one month period. Be very careful with any other type of topical treatments!
All other brands (OTC brands) are known to cause reactions. Especially in a dog that has allergies, such as yours.
You will also need to treat your home and yard if you truly want to get rid of them.
The reason she is losing her hair is because she is allergic to the flea bite. This is a fairly common problem. Fleas are also the cause of tapeworms, you should have a fecal sample done by the vet as well to insure that she doesn't have worms also.
Good luck!

Give the dog a bath with dish soap and leave the soap on for about 10 or 15 minutes then wash off. This will kill the fleas that are on her. Then use frontline. It takes a couple of days to work and takes quite awhile to kill all fleas in yard. Fleas will get on her and die but that does take awhile. Spray yard.

Frontline, Advantex stuff like that. If she's pulling her hair out or losing it due to fleas she could be allergic to them. I had cat who was allergic to fleas and she would lose her hair when they would get to bad. We kept flea stuff on her put as it wore off we'd notice bald patches. Our vet said to give her a teaspoon of brewers yeast mixed with water every day and it would help keep the fleas off her. It works very well and her hair stopped falling out. Before the diagnosis we thought she had the mange. For a pit I would up the dose to a tablespoon but ask your vet first.

Theres several different makes, but get the one that puts one drop or so on the back of the neck so they can't tear it off.

Flea Collars don't work-all they do is chase the fleas to the back of the dog.

Baths only work for a few days at best.

Start putting garlic powder on their food. Also you can bath them in flea shampoo, apply suladene with a wash cloth all over their body allow it to dry. Also you MUST treat the area where the dog spends all of its time.

To get rid of initial infestation, try Sevin Dust. You can find it in gardening areas of stores. Just sprinkle it on him-outside- and let him run. Give him a bath in a couple of days and use the drops then. This stuff is safe on and around animals, and will get rid of fleas, ants, etc, in your yard also. Also safe around food.
