poor thing had diareha last night and soiled his crate. could it have been the awful smell made him rub his nose on the bedding till it bled? I put a dab of neosporin on it to aid healing. The spot is on top were the fur meets the black of his nose. will it always be pink? it is about the size of half a dime. There was a trace of blood on his bedding. what's your opinion? (he is 1/2 yellow lab & 1/2 G. shepard)

I have a yellow lab and she did the same thing twice as a puppy. Both times it healed back to her normal color.

Also I dont think it was the smell that did it, I think he probably was trying to open the crate with his nose to get out.

I'd had my Golden one day when he lept out of my arms and landed nose first on gravel. His nose turned spotted like the skin had worn away, though it never bled. I worried like nothing else until it healed just fine two days later. Every now and again I notice a nose injury like that, from sniffing concrete or grass excessively. The smell might have made him do it, but I doubt it matters. If the wound looks bad, have it looked at, but I'm pretty sure he'll be fine. :)

Take your dog to the vet, because you found blood on his bedding and he has diarrhea. Maybe he is ill and wanted to get out of his crate to hide. Some dogs hide when they are sick. You only know, if this is the first time that he rubbed his nose on his crate.

It sounds like your dog knew he needed to go outside to relieve himself. When you didn't take him outside, he tried to push his way out with his nose causing the abrasion. It is in a dog's nature not to defacate on its bed; however, if he's not given any choice and can't hold it any longer, you will have a mess. From the time that he had the accident, he didn't want to lay down in it and was probably trying to get out of the crate.
