I think my 9yr. old lab has heartworms this morning she wouldn't eat or drink, her ribcage area is swollen and I think shes been coughing. Shes been looseing weight resently and much of her energy but I thought it might be the heat. I live very far away from a vet so its very hard to go to one or get one to come out. She seems to be feeling better this afternoon but I'm not sure what to do and I hate to see her suffer, Any advice?

My Dog won't move?
My husband went out to water the garden today and noticed my daschuhund will not move. When she tries to her back legs move but she just goes backwards. My husband tried to pick her up and she yelped from pain.
Before you say take her to the vet they are closed in my area and we do not have any money to take her to an emergency care they demand payment upfront.
does anyone know of anyway to make her comfortable until tomorrow when we can get her to the vet?
also, does anyone know what might be wrong with her?

Additional Details

Also, she is leaning on her right hind leg and her two front legs and up. So she is like sitting up. If you know what I mean?

Thank you all for your advise My husband and I came home from work today and she had passed away. Thank you all for your thoughts a prayers.

She is a chihuahua, I don't know how old. We're pretty sure she's just chi but a couple people have told me she looks like she could have daschund (sp?) in her. Anyways she really loves playing with me, my cousin, or my 9 year old brother but everyone else seems to scare her. She's afraid of all pet toys, any sudden noises whatsoever, if anything close to her moves or makes a sound while she's eating/drinking she runs away, you get the picture. She's afraid of cats, but she loves other dogs but please don't tell me to get another dog or something, we can't afford it.

If ya want, here's a pic of her. I'm holding her but kinda looking at something else, and my little bro (the 9 year old) was trying to get in the pic: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v47/bonus_points/babyface.jpg

My dog Taco is a toy poodle and he is strictly indoors. We only take him out to do his business 8) and that is only if we have him on a leash. If I don't use a leash, would he run away? I know some people who let their dogs go by themselves then they come back when they are done. Another problem I have is he doesn't come when I call him. We are taking PetSmart classes to train him but he just stares at me when I call him to come here. Any comments or suggestions?

the bows with elastic get caught in her fine hair. I want bows and ribbons and barettes that will clip and stay in her fine soft hair. She is a 6lb malti-Tzu and I had to cut a bow out of her hair it is now growing back and she looks very cute.

I have a 4 month old lab/collie mix puppy. He has been licking and chewing on his skin (and paws) constantly (he has to stop in the middle of walking/playing often). I switched his food from Puppy Chow to ProPac two weeks ago (I was told that the ProPac was much better, corn is not the #1 ingredient), and also bathed him with a soothing shampoo. It has only gotten worse, if anything. We have lots of mosquitos in the area, but it seems doubtful they could penetrate his fur, or can they? Pretty sure his fleas are all gone (Frontline). Could he be allergic to the fabric softener on his dog bedding? I am at a loss, I feel bad for him! Also, he licks the area where he was neutered often. What does that mean? One more thing: he has chewed every dog bedding we put in his crate: beds, sheets, towels... Can anyone recommend a bed that is chewproof but cheaper than Orvis ToughChew? Thanks everyone!

Recently aquired male expressing vicious behavior to his son. This male was raised an "only dog" and was basically the pack leader. Owners were ineffective in controlling his behavior as a puppy. He is 4 years old. We have three other dogs, including his son, and he gets along with the other two. His son submits but is still attacked. I have asked this before and wish to know if the shock collar will change his temperament for the worse. Yes, I of course, have them separated, but this isn't doing his disposition any good, and yes, I know the shock will hurt him physically, but if it will modify his behavior I will use it. It hurts his son to be bitten too.The collar comes with directions so I think I can figure it out. The vet assures me that, at 4, he will not be cured by being neutered. At this point it's a habit. I'd appreciate any useful suggestions. This is a 90 lb. German Shepherd. Sarcastic one-liners are counter productive and unhelpful. Thank you for your help.

I have a little chihuahua I took in several years ago from someone who did not want him. Recently he has developed a skin allergy, causing him to be bald from the neck down, on the inside of his legs, and now patches on his body. My vet cannot figure it out, and we have tried several medications, and taking away possible causes. Now we are told he needs to go to a "dog dermatologist." After all the expenses we have already incurred, we are now looking at around $350 to $400, or more. This is really not an expense we are prepared for, as we already spent a bunch on our 3 cats- 1 who was diagnosed with FIV. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any organizations who will help- I have not found any we qualify for. I feel bad for my little guy, but I really need help with the cost. Any ideas would be great- and please be serious. Thanks.
