The Sobitol used as a sweetener in human toothe paste is poisonous to dogs, and causes eventual liver failure..
I feed Canidae dog food, and even my OLD dog's teeth are sparkling white, and never need cleaned.

I use the human "toddler" toothpaste. It is a fruity flavor the dogs seem to like. I have tried some of the dog pastes, but they didn't really like then, or liked them so much that they were trying to eat it all.
The toddler paste has no fluoride so it can be swallowed. And it can be found at most drug and grocery stores.

Human toothpaste isn't even good for humans! Don't use it on your dog. Did you know that there is enough fluoride in ONE tube of children's flavored toothpaste to kill a human child if they swallowed the whole tube and make them very sick if they swallow even a fraction of that? Dogs don't know not to swallow the toothpaste so don't use human toothpaste on them.

Yeah not even humans are supposed to swallow human toothpaste. Most pet supply stores carry dog toothpaste.

I agree with the others and wouldn't use human toothpaste. There are also dog biscuits out there that claim to reduce tarter build-up, but I haven't researched it to know whether or not it's a good idea. Good luck!

we have always used human toothpaste on out dogs since i was a kid and have never had any ill effect, the vet suggested it, he told us to just use a pea sized amount on a toothbrush, never ever had any problems and their breath smells good!!

no because it is super harsh on the stomach. animals have a sensitive stomach and because they swallow the paste it is not what you should use. in a pinch you can use baking soda but not regularly because it will rub off the enamel. if your pet has breath problems try a bit of parlsey from your spice rack mixed with the paste. they have many flavors now adays easily assessable so spend the 5 bucks.
