Take your dog to the vet for the first cleaning. If you try to do it yourself with a pick you can accidentally cut your dogs gums. After the vet's cleaning then you can brush your dogs teeth on a regular basis. Yes there are doggie toothbrushes as well as meat flavored toothpaste. Brushing your dog's teeth will take getting used to for both of you. Bones are good for dogs teeth but only let your dog have knuckle or joint bones. Other types of bones can splinter and cause internal damage. You can get bones from the meat dept. of grocery stores or meat packing plants.

you can pick up a dental pick from the store. Use it like the dentist would on you. Some dogs don't like their mouth messed with too much so you might have to clean your dogs mouth in sections. I have show dogs so they are used to haveing their mouths messed with. Even so they don't always like it. Most vet offices will gas your dog so they can do a quick and easy job and get your money as you walk out the door. You could ask your goomer or if you do your wash your own animals ask a groomer and they might clean your dogs teeth for you. They can even give you some pointers how to clean your animals teeth. I even clean my cats teeth as well. Have to watch out for those teeth... OUCH!

Yes, you can brush the dogs teeth. Your vet can do so also. Bones and hard food also helps keep tar off teeth.

Brush her teeth. Don't use fluoride toothpaste since she will probably swallow a lot of it. I've never seen a dog toothbrush but I bet a pet store will have them and heck there is probably doggie toothpaste too. I fond that chews helped but not the plastic ones. It is really important to get it taken care of, it can lead to other problems (my dog got very sick with a secondary infections from her teeth).
