That is a breed characteristic of shih tzu...they are never happy if they can't see their owner..They will be stressed if they are more then 18 feet away, too!

they were bred as companions, and many companion breeds are like this.

Dog's are pack creatures by instinct...in the wild, they would constantly be surrounded by other dogs and hanging out with them wherever they go. If he is an ONLY dog in your home, then he doesn't understand why you (his pack leader) won't allow him to participate in your activities or be with you every second of the day. If he is only 6 months old, he will probably outgrow it a little...but running back to him and picking him up or giving him attention when he does this will not really help. If possible, another dog would be a great companion for him and maybe make him not miss you as much when you step away.

If all else fails, call the Dog Whisperer... (thats the kinda stuff he does for people sometimes, I've actually seen him teach an owner how to handle their pomeranian who was doing the exact same thing).

I used to have a male and female shih tzu and I breed them and delivered the babies. Thus, I am a person who loves the breed of dog. These dog haven't been in the united States all that long. Maybe not more than 65 years. They were breed in China for the prupose to sit on the feet of the King and Queen (not sure what they were called, maybe emperor and emporeses) Anyhow, they were breed to sit and keep the feet of the royality warm, Thus they are dogs that adore their masters and mistresses. Your little one is only 6 months old and loves you so much.
My dogs went to me to the bathroom. I just learned that they are very loving dogs who adore they owners.
You are very blessed to have this little on in your life.

Over the years I have had three shits tzus and I can't afford one now. But, they are the most wonderful dogs I have ever had. They are fiercly loyal and loving. They are little but very protective of the people they love. Once on a walk with my little shits tzu and a big black lab jumped out and thretened us, my little ball of fur took off and chased that big black dog down the street and the big dog ran like a sissie.
Enjoy your dog hon

He has bonded too you and gets nervous being alone. This can lead to seperation anxiety as well and that can cause problems like peeing, barking at night, etc.

A few things to try are to give him less attention when you first see him during the day or when you get home. Try to encourage him to play with some toys by himself, or leave him alone while he is playing with some toys or something.

Well, usually some dogs needs another dog to play with, so he wantsw all the attention from you. this is the same thing that happened with my Siberian husky. Get another dog and itll gradually stop.

Your pet most likely needs some good exercise! Take your pet for at least a half hour walk everyday and let him or her get rid of that pent up energy!

get a big ol sweatshirt, wear it to bed several nights in a row, then give this to your dog, it'll smell like you and he'll be happy, we had to do that with a dog that wouldn't let us sleep at night
