You should try taking him into different environments. Change his walking routine - Do you walk him??--that way he gets used to different situations and noises. Try going to different parks, change your route when u walk, even take him for a car ride. Also when u walk him if he gets scared have him sit and repeat good boy and tell him its ok, that way he will see that the situation is fine. Take treats with you so that way u can reward him. When he is home alone try to leave the t.v. on or the radio so he gets used to the background noise. It will take time depending on his character and his drive. My doberman was scared when he was a puppy of other dogs but with positive reinforcement he kind of looks at them now wondering what the problem is lol!! An awesome website for tips, articles, dvds, n such is www.leerburg.com I have his dvds and they really helped understand my dog

Ignore all of those immature people out there who have answered your question rudely. They REALLY need to get a life...a job or something to occupy their time. Especially the one with the animal molesting infatuation! Wow! What a weirdo to have even made that comment. Anyway, I think maybe your dog is just a little timid. I wouldn't worry about that too much, I think it is kinda a cute trait. Good luck!

lots of people say that dogs take on traits of there owners perhaps the dog learned to be a wuss from watching you, you give a good example of a wuss for the dog to follow in your actions of making the dog meaner why? do you wish the dog to fight your battles for you because your the wuss, truly only time will tell muh huh ha ha

stop yelling at him or allowing him to be around people who yell, a dog needs to trust to protect AND PUPPIES MAKE MISTAKES.
an abused dog cowers. He may have been before you got him. You need to develope a NON SEXUAL bond with him and he will stand up to anything.
