Cats - October 2006

I am getting a black kitten. I want a cool name for her. Something that has a witches familiar type ring to it would be cool. I don't want blacky or smoky. Those are not original and very blah.

My wife says that a cat has a memory span of about 2 weeks. We are discussing introducing a new pet into the home & she believes that after that 2 weeks the 2 cats we have will have no memory of the new pet never being here. We started with one kitten (sophie) & when she was about 7 months old we got a new kitten (puppy...yes, I, the husband, picked the name). At first, sophie was very standoffish, but true to my wife's theory, after a couple of weeks they were inseperable. Is it possible that she never remembers a time without puppy? You can now buy an Allerca kitten for like $3,950. It's a new cat breed that won't cause allergic reactions. Love cats but they make you scratch and sneeze? Not anymore. But the price is absurd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have found out my cat has fleas well its not my cat its a cat that we have ben looking after for a while. I totally hate fleas and I've chuked the cat outside. It left fleas on my shirt which i chuked into the wash. Please could you tell me if I did right an how could I get rid of the fleas?
Also how can I prevent the cat from gettin fleas?

Do kittens in the mothers uterus start moving rapidly before labor begins? Yesterday my cats kittens were moving rapidly in her stomach and today she lost her mucus plug at 11 in the morining. When should she go into labor. It is now 2 hours and 40 min after she lost the "plug".

My cat fell out of the loft the end of 9/06 after having a stroke, his hind legs are paralyzed and now he has sores and raw skin that is infected. The vet took all the maggots off and I have been washing him 2x daily but he's not getting better, and he smells. Hubby and I are coming to terms with having to put him to sleep but I can't seem to feel good about that decision in my heart. How do I know that his fate lays in my hands. I am so sad and need support from someone anyone. He's not eating, just drinking H2O. He wants to get out of the laundry bin I've had him in so he doesn't get dirt or bugs in his wounds. If I'm gonna put him to sleep tomorrow what does it matter if he enjoys his last day outside in his own environment? Why isn't he healing or eating? I will miss him so much! I don't want to let him go! I'm not ready and I know he still has a lot of life in him, just not his legs. Aren't there any holistic vets that know what to do, to get him better? Please Help!

My 7month old kitten, Doodles, lost a small incisor tooth today. I know that is normal, but I feel like I might have been premature, since I was playing with him with a catch and reel toy when it happened. Isn't he too young to be loosing teeth yet?and should I take him to the vet to have him check out his dental progress?

Persian cats hair got to long and she went to the bathroom and the poop was stuck in her hair..I gave her a bath and went to trim her was doing fine.

Towards the end I was cutting a hair ball and cut to much and she scratched at me so I stopped. Then I looked and there is a flap of all skin just hanging off of her and I can see her actual body.. Not really sure what to do if it will heal on its own what do I do about the excess amount of skin?

Will go to the vet if needed but moneys tight and just wondering what the options are.

I've had my cat for three years and I've never had a problem with him pooping outside of the box. Within the last year he's been pooping on the couch in various areas and I can't get him to stop. The litter box is always clean. I don't know what to do. Please help.

What color should my cats mucus plug be when it comes out? I heard that white to green is ok but pink is bad or if it smells bad. She is still snacking on food. I heard that cats go off of food or become ravenous. She is very young. Probably only a year. I rescued her from an abandoned basement. It feels like there are 4-5 kittens in her. You can see them move around when she lies down. She lost her mucous plug so how long before kittens are born? It is probably her first litter. I had another cat that ran away and had babies in a strom drain and I had to rescue them when they were a day old. I never witnessed a birth with my own eyes. And I was wondering what contractions look like? Thank you so much.

I just found out 3 days ago that my boyfriend, 3 cats and I are moving to Las Vegas from NJ in 3 weeks. My biggest concern is moving my 3 cats (2 quite large adults and a 5 month old kitten) across the country with us. Since we are going to Vegas where it is very hot, I refuse to fly the cats out there by themselves. Airlines treat animals as cargo and I couldn't risk anything happening to them. My only option is to drive them out there.

If anyone has crossed the country with their cats and has any advice, I'd greatly appreciate it. I guess I'm most concerned about them escaping when we stop to rest or when I have to roll the window down to pay a toll and what to do about the litterbox. Any advice would be great!

ok, just this week we booked an appointment to the vet's to get my cat spayed. However, she's in heat for the first time andfrom what I hear, cats become lazy (only sleep and eat) if neutered/spayed after puberty.
What do I do? Is it still better getting her spayed or should I let it pass? Maybe it's not too late?

Mind you, she's an indoor cat. My mom is thinking we could introduce a male cat just once and let her have kittens so she'll get it over with. Will *this* work maybe?

My cat always seem to know when I am sick. He sits or lays down next to me, butts me with his head - wanting me to pet him. When I do, after a while a will be feeling a lot better. Magic, no?
