Be patient and introduce them gradually.

If you're introducing a newcomer to the family, be sure to give the resident kitty plenty of love and attention so s/he doesn't get the idea that s/he's being replaced.

Keep them in separate rooms at first, letting them take turns having the run of the place while the other one is in its own room. Let them smell one another under the door to get used to the idea that there's another cat around.

When you introduce them rub them both down with the same towel or a wet wipe to mingle their scents.

Introduce them at first with one in a carrier, then the other way round. Or open the door to one of their rooms but block it with a baby gate or a fireplace grate if you have one, standing close by to make sure neither of them leaps the barrier.

Never scold them if they hiss or show hostility, but don't let them start fighting. Be ready to separate them promptly.

Sometimes kitties will get along right from the start, but usually it takes a while. Cats are naturally social creatures and in time they should both come to appreciate that two cats are better than one.

Good luck!

I have to disagree with Spackler. All of my cats are girls. Two of them are sisters and when they were 1 years old, we rescued another cat (which was a girl) and we introduced them to her, they were very cautious at first, but after a month or two they were perfectly fine and now they just love each other and always sleep and lick each other.
But the way to get 2 cats to like each other is to keep them around each other all the time, make them share the same litter box to help them to get to know each others smell and then after a while, they'll be just fine! ;-)

I have an older cat and just adopted a kitten that was born on my horse ranch. Pretty much I just let them hiss at each other and said NO every time they did that. I made sure that they have separate bowls of food so they dont fight over it. That helps as well. Also make sure you pay attention to both cats equally. They become jealous very easily and can take out that anger on each other. Good luck.

If both of these cats are female...Good luck!! Over time they will tolerate each other, but they will never like each other.

Give them only one bowl to feed from.

This will force them to accept eachother as "feeding partners."

Or it will make the situation worse, in which case you'd want to give them two bowls immediately.

Other than that.. sorry I'm not a feline psychiatrist.
