Cats - September 2006

I've had 2 cats now that have had a litter but both have had trouble. My first cat had a litter of 4 but lost one kitten, the intestines was on the outside, but the other 3 kittens were fine. My second cat had only 2 kittens, but the first one was big and both of its back legs were broken, but the other kitten is o.k.
Just wondering if that's normal for a first litter and any other litters they have will all be o.k Don't think I or my cats can go through this sort of thing every time. It's very sad.

Can anyone give advice on a similar situation with their cat. She is on three tablets a day and still is not eating since I left her at the vets overnight and they put her on a drip to get fluids into her. I am so worried. What Is the prognosis for a cat with these two problems (she is about 10 years old)? How can I tempt her to eat her vet reccomended diet of dried biscuits?

I am about to trim my kitten's nails for the first time. I've read a bunch of sites on doing it (trimming the nail, and not the quick). My question is, I would like to make them as dull as possible as to not damage my furniture. Will simply one quick snip do the trick? Or will it still be a bit sharp (edges?)? Or can I try to trim out the edges making it less sharp?

My cat Noodle comes and goes as he pleases - he is a bit of a wanderer, using the cat flap to get in and out. Most nights at 2, 3 or 4 am, he wakes me up by nibbling me and will not go away unless I feed him, or physically pick him up and take him to his bowl of food that I have already left out for him. If I shut my bedroom door, he will only claw the carpet. He is two years old and otherwise adorable - help!

ever since he was wee, he always pulled at the furniture and has torn a carpet and a three peice suite. I have tired everything to stop him from doing this. But it is really getting me down now. So much so that I have relegated him to the kitchen to sleep at night. he has warm bed which is out of any draft.

The thing is when I come down in the morning and I see his wee face looking through the glass kitchen door it pulls at my heart strings and I feel very guilty about leaving him on his own downstairs.

I have never encouraged him to sleep on my bed as I am asthamatic. What can I do?..please don't say get rid of him

I probably should have been more firm when bringing my kitty up, but I didn't really teach her not to scratch the sofa, or for that matter not to play with people's hands and stuff. Now she's about 6 months old. How do I train her retroactively? My previous roommate didn't care; my new one does.

I'm aware that it might be a connection to any gum disease so were going to the vet tomorrow, but I'm just wondering if it can happen naturally as kitty simply didn't notice it fall out & it doesnt seem to be bothering her at all. Do you think it will grow back?

I have a Burmese cat who will only eat 1 brand of canned cat food. ( that is of middling cost ) Other canned foods he will eat cost triple what I provide for him now. He will eat dry food but only as a snack ( i give him Royal Canine Exigent ), and the only other alternative I have is he will eat home cooked meat dishes I cook for him which I think wouldnt have the necessary nutirents. ( no salt or flavors, just boiled meats ) I have tried other flavors and brands of similar pricing but all he'll do is sniff once, scratch the floor twice and walk away squinting in disgust... then meow in absolute agony as if i have not fed him for 1 week.

Recently, I think his favorite canned food flavor is about to be discontinued, I am at a loss now... does anyone have tips on how I can change his food without causing too much stress? Any help anyone can render would be very highly appreciated as i love my pet very much.... thank you all in advance.

For the past week or so, one of my cats has resorted to taking a dump in the bathroom. More often than not, I'll go to retrieve a towel that I've dropped on the bathroom floor after my shower and when I go back later to retrieve the towel to put it in the laundry (I leave the towel in the bathroom for a while so that it's not wet when I put it in with other clothes--no, I'm not really a slob), several times in the past week or so, I'll pick up a towel and find, um, used cat food byproducts have been deposited on it. So a couple days ago, not knowing what else to do, I put an extra litter box in a corner of the bathroom, and the cat used the litter box for a few days--and now is back to taking a dump on any towels or other similar items.

I've got two cats, a mother and daughter, and the daughter (she's about a year and a half old) is the one who's been leaving the presents for me. I'm continuing to leave towels on the bathroom floor so she doesn't leave a mess on the tile.

Almost a week ago, my two year old cat had a surgery. He had a lump on his neck removed. It was quite rough first few days but now he's almost completely recovered. The only problem is that he keeps on scratching the scar. The vet told us that we have to prevent this one from happening. We've tried bandaging it up, but since it's on quite weird spot, it keeps rolling down, or my little Jago has no problem removing it. We try to stay awake at night to watch on him, but it's not really working... What can I do??

My sister needs to transport her cat from Singapore to Ireland, Cork, and the petmovers are quoting her S$6000. Are there other options? I heard that you can call the airline and get a flight in which u pay similar to a normal ticket (for humans). Sister can't re-home the cat cos she's pretty nasty to everyone except her and her husband. If she gives it to the SPCA, very likely it will be put down. Pls help.

I have to take my kitten to the Vet Thursday for part of her check up and shots. They asked me to bring in a fecal sample. know that they want me to bring in poop (Gross). But what do they want? Like a fresh piece out of little litter box with the little rocks on it in a plastic baggie or something?
