I know cats who drink from the loo, bath, sink, my water glass, the pond, spilt water on the floor, the birds water, but their own bowl? No way!

Cats will drink from their water bowl if the water is changed at least once every two days and the water bowl is cleaned each time the water is changed. Maybe some slime has built up in the bottom of the bowl, giving off an odor that while offensive to cats, goes unnoticed by us humans.
All four of my cats drink from their water bowl, but they have their own favorite "alternate sources" of water. Two of my cats will only drink from the sink when the water is trickling and dripping on their heads.
The other two cats drink from the bathtub when it's filling up with hot water.
The moral of the story is: maybe all cats are a little cracked!! (That's why they're so fun to have around.)

We have found that Cats do not like FRESH tap water due to the temperature, and to the smell, it is full of ions, chlorine, fluoride etc.
Ours prefer filter water, when it has reached room temperature, but most of all prefer rain water, again when it is room temperature.
We always leave a bowl outside, and keep it topped up with rainwater: some will say it is unhealthy, but is sure better than drinking out of muddy puddles.

Hate to ruin the survey but my cat drinks from a water bowl. The dog and cat share the inside bowl.

Too true--my cat prefers to drink water out o all the things you listed above as well as my dog's water bowl. That always starts trouble when they both want to drink from it at the same time. I can take that same bowl and put it by his food dish and he won't even touch it!! What IS with that?

My cat wouldn't drink from her bowl. I was told to give her a bowl with a big diameter as her whiskers were brushing the side of the bowl and she didn't like it. She used to tip the water over the floor and then lap it up. I gave her a big cereal bowl - end of problem.

My cat was the same, I would put clean water down everyday but she would still drink from puddles, next doors pond and my glass! I would take a drink of water to bed with me and quite often wake up to the sound of her slurping away!

My cat has his own special bowl with a water base and fishy swimming in it, I sit it up on the kitchen counter and that happens to be the only bowl he'll drink from (I've since learned to close the toilet seats)

Cat owners usually fill the bowls from the cold tap(Faucet)
There is chlorine gas in drinking water, and as cats & dogs have superior smelling power, they dont like it. I fill the bowl from the cold water that has been in the kettle.

I don't understand it either, my two will only drink from a running tap, so a bought a pet fountain that recycles the water through a charcoal filter and looks and sounds like a running tap. Seems to have done the trick.
