My sister needs to transport her cat from Singapore to Ireland, Cork, and the petmovers are quoting her S$6000. Are there other options? I heard that you can call the airline and get a flight in which u pay similar to a normal ticket (for humans). Sister can't re-home the cat cos she's pretty nasty to everyone except her and her husband. If she gives it to the SPCA, very likely it will be put down. Pls help.

Hi Carmen...because of governmental laws between different countries your sister will be required to meet Irish governmental requirements. Transporting pets can be quite troublesome if those guidelines are not followed exactly.

The Irish government requires the following for cats coming from Singapore:

- Be microchipped (this must be done before anything else).
- Be vaccinated for rabies (may be done on the same day as microchipping).
- Be bloodtested after rabies vaccination and microchipping at least SIX (6) months before entry (the pet must have a result greater than 0.5 IU/ml).
- Be treated for tick and tapeworm between 24 and 48 hours before departure.
- Have a Veterinary Certificate (passport) issued or endorsed by the competent authority in the country of origin.
- Be accompanied by the owner (or person acting on their behalf) on an APPROVED AIRLINE carrier into Ireland.

Your sister will have call various airlines to see who can qualify to meet these guidelines, but she will need to follow the strict Irish Government requirements or the cat could be denied transport or worse destroyed upon arrival in Ireland.

Here's the website that she will need to refer to in order to bring her cat to Ireland: http://www.oasis.gov.ie/moving_country/moving_to_ireland/bringing_pets_to_ireland.html

I think they can take the cat in the cabin with them, paying some fare (not the whole ticket), but it is imperative that the cat be escorted, it has all the necessary veterinary certificates and that no other animal is onboard at the same time. They should ask the airline company for details.

If the cat will travel unescorted, it has to be carried by a petmover.

Will you let me know what happened?
Thank you.

I had to transport my cat from New York to San Diego (granted, big difference) but I just called different airlines and got what was their approved cat carrier and just took him with me. I didn't pay anything extra... I would check that and check the quarentine laws for where she's going in Ireland and what the vaccination requirements are.
