Almost a week ago, my two year old cat had a surgery. He had a lump on his neck removed. It was quite rough first few days but now he's almost completely recovered. The only problem is that he keeps on scratching the scar. The vet told us that we have to prevent this one from happening. We've tried bandaging it up, but since it's on quite weird spot, it keeps rolling down, or my little Jago has no problem removing it. We try to stay awake at night to watch on him, but it's not really working... What can I do??

Collar is out of question since the scar is on that spot and than it would rub over it

Hi there...since the scar is where a collar would rest against consider contacting your vet to get a prescribed dosage for "childrens" Benadryl. When scar tissue is healing it feels itchy so Benadryl helps alleviate this sensation giving Jago some relief as well as allowing the scar to heal without him scratching it tempting infection or reinjuring himself.

Well, your cat will hate me for suggesting this but ask your vet for one of those bell collars. It looks like a lampshade around his neck. If this will irritate the wound also, then I really don't know. Try wrapping the bandage (loosely) under one of his legs to prevent it from slipping, like a human with their collarbone bandaged.

The most common way of preventing animals from scratching at scars is to put them in a collar

You should keep an eye on the cat until the scar will heal. I did the same thing to my cat and the scar closed itself.
