Cats - August 2006

My boyfriend has a small dairy farm, and I go there every day to help take care of the animals. They have always had barn cats, but usually just a handfull of healthy ones. The past 2 years have brought an unusually large amount of kittens, and feral kitties appeared, and now I am seeing viruses, lice, and battle wounds associated with having too many cats. We are not the type to hurt the cats, and many are considered family pets. My boyfriend says they have overpopulated because his sisters feed them too much, but we can't just stop feeding them now that they are there! Nobody has the funds to start neutering them, and they tell me it is $$ down the drain if they get hit on the road. If I treat our favorites only, won't they just get healthier and have MORE babies? And won't the feral ones give diseases back to the pets? Serious suggestions or personal experience with this ONLY. Rude answers will be reported, I really care and want to help the situation.

Just got my kitty spayed. How long will i have to wait before i can let her out of the house? Also, there's this rather large bump where her stitches are. Is that normal?

I was like wtf!!!! I know it's the BEST thing to do for our pets and our society. she told me that cats/dogs don't have a say about getting spayed/neutered and that she would NEVER do anything like that to "harm" her animals. I got into a very big argument with her over this situation. in my opinion, people just don't see the importance of this surgery. people in this world don't realize just how many unwanted cats/kit or dogs/pups are sitting in shelters awaiting for a loving home which will probably never come for them!!! I'm not mentioning about the breeders, only these stupid irresponsible pet owners who just don't want to have their cats/dogs spayed/neutered because either they think it's "cruel" or they're down right lazy and don't care!!! oh, and by the way, the lady I argued with, her cat was fixing to have a litter of kittens soon. so my question is: why would any pet owner believe this idiotic and uneducated statement that it's cruel to spay/neuter your pets?

He was prescribed Clavamox liquid we can not get it down his throat for nothing. We have tried the mix in wet food he is too smart for that he knows it is in there. We tried holding him down and tight he has scratched us and bit us. 12 more days of this and I am going to go crazy. Please help us with any thing that might have worked for you. Thank you sooooooo Much

My cats are 3 years old, strictly indoor cats (they have never been outside), eat good quality cat food (not the cheap crap & never table scraps), drink only water (never milk). My house is 95% hardwood with a few area rugs. Yards of hardwood, yet they go for the rugs everytime (which is harder). Why?

Someone told me they would but after further thought I don't think that their temperment would change since females aren't significantly more mellow just because they don't have testicular nobules.

I have an idea for an invention, but need someone with technical expertise....I have my doubts if a cat would trot along like dogs do on a teadmill...perhaps a video of a barking dog would motivate the cat, but how would you control the speed of the treadmill.

I have 3 two-wk old stray kittens that I am bottle feeding, stimuating to go potty, etc., although they are starting to go on their own this week as well. I know they are way too young now but at what point should I introduce them to the litterbox?

when your cat has a cold wet nose does that mean he's a healthy cat or that he is sick?

We got her 2 days ago. We've been feeding her a mixture of hard kitten food mixed with soft kitten food and water with a little bit of milk in it. She is very tiny and scrawny and frail. We think the other kitten in the same cage at the pet store was not letting her eat much. I would appreciate any help.

We "free feed" our cats Purina One Sensitive System Formula dry food. Buf for a "treat" which seems to be about once a day now, they have me trained well....we feed them that new Meow Mix Premium wet food with no meat by products. It seems to sit well with them (aka not much puke to clean up), and I see why they call it "Meow" Mix when I rip off the top! LOL!

I have an almost 8 year old cat, and tonight when I changed his kitty litter, I found some bloody poop..I am calling the Vet in the morning, but thought that someone out there may have ideas as to what it could be...My 2yo would be devestated if he woke and his kitty was dead...I am hoping that it isn't something that serious...NO other health issues, and he's an indoor cat.
Thanks!
