Except for the sneezing and coughing, I'm wondering about his kidneys, if he's drinking a lot and still dehydrated. I lost a kitty to this and he wouldn't eat a thing either. He'd act interested but then just turn away from the dish.

You didn't mention how old the cat is - if he's old, maybe he's preparing to go. I don't know really what to tell you, but I totally sympathize.

Good luck and blessings to you and your kitty.

Ask your vet if he has some AD. It is a special canned cat food that liquefies when you add a small amount of water and is great for syringe feeding. I may be wrong, but I don't thing a blood test will show cancer. Your cat really needs to be x-rayed to find if there are any growths in the nasal or throat area. The vet can also give him some anesthesia and look down the throat. This rapid weight loss is not good as you already know. You mention dehydration, and the fact that he is drinking alot of water. That could also mean kidney problems, as well as diabetes, but the blood test will show that for sure.

I really do know what you are going through and I wish I had some magic words of wisdom to make this easier for you, but I don't. You have done all you can do for now. You have to wait for the blood results and please ask your vet about the special food, the x-rays and possibly checking the throat.

Try and keep your chin up for him, because I'm sure you are aware that he will feel your distress. Hold him close to your heart and thank him for the love he has given you and I thank you for the love you have given him.

Take care and good luck

He may be on his last days. You must decide if you want to try and keep him around or put him down.

One interesting thing. Friends from long ago had a cat in your condition. Three vets could not help him. They thought cancer, or similar for the cat.

As they considered putting him down they talked to a friend and old time vet who was no longer practicing. The guy came over to the house and smelled the cat's breath. He looked in the mouth of the cat and popped a finger in. A couple seconds later out pops a rotten tooth. Cat spits and licks its mouth for a while and the vet says feed the cat soft food for the next couple days. The cat goes on to live several more years. Maybe you can be so lucky with this advice.

Could be a simply feline could or something referred to as kennel cough. However if your cat has been allowed to roam outdoors it could be possible he has a more serious condition I think called FVP. I forget what it stands for sorry but most kittens are vaccinated at 6 weeks for this so hopefully yours was. This condition is spread when cats scratch each other or bodily fluids exchange. Some cats carry it and never get sick for years then suddenly start with a cold that never gets beter and eventually systems failures.

Since your vet didn't test specfically for this I'd expect to hear he may be perfectly fine but at his age even colds happen and can be serious. try a humidfier (it worked for our cat) and some chicken broth at first and by all means be a meany and force the cat to take his vitamins even if he doesn't want too. He needs all the help he can get fighting a cold.

Hey I honestly do suggest you take your cat to the vet especially if he wont eat or accept taking medicines.. Cause your wasting what might be the cats last days asking questions to a bunch of people who are doing this for fun... You need to take the cat to the vet and demand them to do more tast and stuff, or go ahead and put the poor creature out of its misery...... Good Luck, and may God bless you both!!!

Does he still use the litter box at all? My cat stopped eating and using the bathroom and the vet concluded it would either be he was plugged or perhaps had a tumor. (I got him from the humane society they said he was 6 years old, but the vet figured he was 13yrs) If he was plugged up they could help him but that needs to be done ASAP. If you were plugged up you wouldn't want to eat either. So check to see if he's still using litterbox. If he can't pee he won't make it more than couple days. Sadly in my situation, they found it to be a growing tumor on his spleen. :(

Nothing much you can do until the blood results come back. It shouldn't take more than 3 days to get those results in, and they will tell your vet what's really wrong with the kitty.

Other than that you're just gonna have to force feed the best you can.

Take your cat back to the vet immediately, please. For your sake and the cat's. Something is terribly wrong when an animal refuses to eat. You do not say the results of the tests the vet ran, but something else is going on here. You know what you need to do. When we love our animals, we do what is best for them, and this type of weight loss indicates suffering. Best wishes.

Cats won't eat what they can't smell. You need to find out what's causing his congestion and work on that.

Did you check his teeth? Tooth root abscesses often drain into the nasal cavity, and are also often associated with mouth pain - both reasons for your cat not to eat.

What did the bloodwork say? There's other things than diabetes that can cause weight loss, like kidney disease or hyperthyroidism.

You can have the cat swallow a soft tube through which you can 'feed' him a solution of minerals and vitamins straight into the stomac. Do this until you know what's wrong. Ask the vet about it.
